March 14 MP Marwan Hamadeh confirmed on Sunday Ya Libnan’s report which revealed that the newly appointed Labor Minister Salim Jreissati “was appointed by Hezbollah.”
In an interview with Al-Fajr radio station former minister Hamadeh said that “Jreissati has always attacked the work of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon [STL],” which is investigating the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
He also said that “Jreissati has defended the criminals” involved in the 2005 assassination, in reference to four Hezbollah members that have been indicted by the UN-backed STL in the assassination of Hariri.
Hamadeh miraculously survived an assassination attempt on October 1, 2004. He was accused of being behind UN security council resolution 1559 which called for the Syrian troops to leave Lebanon and for Hezbollah to be disarmed
The indictments in the assassination of former Communist party chief George Hawi and attempted assassinations of former ministers Hamadeh and Elias Murr which will soon be issued by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon may result in new leads to other assassinations that had taken place in Lebanon, according to a report by the An Nahar newspaper on Feb 20.
