Gemayel: Justice threatens Lebanon security

Share:

Following a meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michele Sison Former Lebanese president and Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel said that throughout the world, achieving justice establishes stability, “except in Lebanon where justice threatens the peace and targets Lebanon’s credibility before the international community.”

Gemayel ‘s comment comes following reports of Hezbollah leader’s insistence that Prime Minister Saad Hariri should declare Hezbollah innocent in the murder of Lebanon’s former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

The special tribunal for Lebanon (STL) which is an independent court was formed by the United Nations security council to try the killers of the former Lebanese PM.

No one really knows what the contents of the STL indictments will be like , but Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah admitted in his speech on Thursday July 22 that some of his party members would be named in the tribunal’s formal charges but stressed that he will reject the indictments.

Nasrallah’s speech followed a July 20 report in the pro-Syrian newspaper, Al Safir which revealed that Hezbollah members will be indicted by STL in the assassination of Hariri.

Nasrallah’s recent speeches created tension not seen since May 2008 when Hezbollah occupied western Beirut and tried (but failed ) to occupy Mt Lebanon .

The recent tension prompted the visit by the Saudi and Syrian leaders last Friday to try and calm the situation in Lebanon. Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani also arrived last Friday on a 3 day official visit with the aim of reducing tension in Lebanon

Gemayel said that “Lebanon cannot afford more security setbacks because they may threaten the state building process, which is already in a fragile condition.”

“The Phalange Party stands firm on the principles of the Cedar Revolution and the accomplishments of the passed five years should not be squandered,” Gemayel stressed.

  1. Well done Mr. Gemayel.

I wonder, why h/a is preempting the formal STL indictments !!!! h/a’s group is nothing but a bunch of cowardly thugs, not willing to admit the truth. Their behavior is indicative of their deeds. Why should they be above the law and not face the consequences!!! Is it because they are armed to the gills!!! and use their arms under false pretense to kill Lebanese citizens rather liberate the so called “palestine”. Enough mockery.

the STL will indict whoever the evidence points to. theres nothing anyone can do about it.

i think things are gettig lost in translation here. HA rogue agent involvement in the assasination plot has nothing to do with HA itself so relax nasrallah, your seat will still be there and your microphone will still be ready to be watered with your sprays.

other than that, gemayel, your comments are wrong cos everywhere else in the world where theres a plot like the jfk killing, the real killers to date have gotten away.

the bhutto killing, they got away. the gandhi killing, they got away.

jamal abdul nasser? they got away cos the doctor who supposedly operated on him in russia was jewish. that detail was not from me.

the STL is like a train on a track that has only one purpose. when it stops at the station to deliver its verdict, we’re all gonna have to accept the verdict civil strife or not.

i dont believe any civil strife will come from it cos all nasrallah wants is for the group itself to not be indicted but if the agents with evidence are indicted he will have no choice but to hand them over just like he did when that helicopter wsa shot down accidentally.

  3. The problem in Lebanon is so many illeterate people that do not understand things ,as long as we have uneducated mothers they will raise ignorant and substandard children that will worship their fathers and mothers(both uneducated) and their political and religious leaders because they can not use their brains to sort things about and they leave somebody to do the thinking for them and they follow right or wrong, this is why those people do not comprehend if we have lots of them the balance is going to tip toward chaos and anarchy, but if those young people get higher education their leaders do not dare to say things that are hot air because they can not get away, imagine a college educated person gets a lecture from somebody that barely finished 6th grade, will you buy it?
