Iran warns US: Toppling Assad ‘would endanger Israel’

Iran has reportedly warned the US that ousting Syrian leader Bashar Assad in the guise of battling the Islamic State would endanger Israel.

The report in the Iranian media came as a senior Iranian official confirmed that his country and the US had exchanged messages over the fight against the militant group.

Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian also was quoted Saturday by Iranian media as saying Iran warned Washington that Israel’s security will be at risk should the US and its allies seek to topple the embattled Syrian president in the name of fighting the extremist group.

Iran has backed Assad during Syria’s three-year civil war. The US has called for Assad to resign and rules out cooperating with his government in the fight against the Islamic State group.

Abdollahian’s comments were the first time a senior Iranian official confirmed that Iran and the US had discussed fighting the Islamic State group.

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani told Iranian media last month that “the US logic for annihilating the ISIL (an acronym for the Islamic State) will not result in reforms in the Middle-East and won’t destroy the ISIL, rather it will cause an overwhelming fire of hatred in this region.”

Last week, the Sunday Times reported that the Islamic State is preparing to wage war on Iran in order to obtain the secrets of its nuclear program, citing a manifesto attributed to a member of the Islamic State war cabinet that the newspaper had uncovered.

      Real … one only needs to see “the US logic for annihilating the ISIL…” and stop right there.
      LOGIC is not something popping wildly out of Iran – especially if they see ANY ‘logic’ in a gang of killers running around doing their own ‘Creation’ thing, for a long-defunct concept of Caliphatitis, while using methods long decried as barbarous from periods of history that gave us such novelties as crusades, inquisitions, and Dracula.
      Of course, they also believe their own propaganda which says that 13 million Jews control the 7 Billion on the planet, and they think USA is the ‘2nd in command’ for the rest of us, and will just do anything for Israel, so if they seem worried for Israel it is only to get everyone off ISIL’s back. You know … give them some time to ‘regulate’ themselves into some kind of useful society, that sort of thing … and maybe not attack Iran because it ‘spoke up’ about ‘Logic’. Besides ….
      You know how many – even in here – ‘BELIEVE’ that having Caliphtitis is perfectly logical.
      Maybe even Supremes do too. :-))))

Lebanese Ministry of Tourism maps also show the Lebanese-Syrian border running west of the Shebaa Farms. Syria has officially acknowledged the Farms are Lebanese.

        Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said the Israeli-occupied Shebaa Farms belong to Lebanon. Assad told a news conference in Paris before ending a state visit to France, Beirut and Damascus will demarcate their countries’ border at Shebaa Farms after Israel withdraws from the region. They will then submit a new map to the UN.

        You see? And now they want the Lebanese Government to do the dirty work killing Palestinians who in turn are protected by the UN this way Israel and USA can demonize Lebanon as committing genocide so the Israelis can keep Our Land.
        Dirty game indeed, but only those with no moral are truly dirty.

    You all misunderstood what Iran is saying. You understood it as saying that if Assad falls in Syria no one will be safe from the takfiris ruling Syria including Israel. However, what Iran is saying is that if Assad falls due to the U.S., Iran will have Hezbollah attack Israel as payback for U.S. attacking Assad.

    We must be carefull not to let the focus be on ISIS as the biggest bogey man , they arose from a vacuum after the killings of millions of muslims in IRAQ and SYRIA.         That’s a nice analysis. It’s interesting how every religion created a text of the anti-religion, or a description of the biggest enemy of such religion. It is clear today that IS fills this role, the biggest victim of this war waged in the name of Islam is Islam itself. And the best way to fight them is to recognize them as what they are.
        This is first and foremost an inter-faith war, the foreigners take roles only, but the fight is basically between Islam and the anti-islam. I wish your side good luck.

          Western force want Assad to be in power and thats why they brought these Daesh Dogs in the midst of the Syrian resistance to demonize the whole revolution. Assad gave them arms and install them in Syria as a buffer zone between the FSA and the Assad regime. The Daesh dogs came in 2013 and before that the FSA was doing great. As soon as these Dogs of Hell came in they started fighting against the FSA. Why do you have to compare Daesh crime with the west? Its this Shaiatins who claimed the 911 and London 7/7 bombing and countless of other bombing and paved the way to the occupation force in the Muslim Land. The whole Syrian rebel group expelled these Khawarij Bastards and none of the Muslim scholars gave them any support. You seems ignoring the main rebel group in Syria in favor of Daesh.             I agree with all you said.
            One thing that lead us to this path though is poor political decisions made. Ikhwaan were traitors dealing with iran but saudi replaced ikhwaan with another traitor calle sisi, I imagine they meant well but this move gave iran a free hand to move.

            They did not expect the daesh dogs of hellfire to emerge so quickly after the transition in egypt and now have AQ ISIS HEZBALLAH AND HOUTHIS knocking on the doors.

            4 fronts of iran to fight against and the ummah is to preoccupied to assist. This is why Saudi is now forced to forge relationships with america and britain even though they are the masterminds who put led iran to move into such a position.

            Saudi can easily call for global jihad(a tactic isis has used which prepared other countries to study and figure out how to stem the numbers)

            US besieged Iraq for over a decade causing the death of over a million children, only those who support genocide claim this is not genocide.

            Meanwhile, the Islamic State has already captured large swats of territory, there has been no genocide in any of their territories.

            Hundreds of thousands fled Mosul, idiots like you claimed there was going to be a genocide, few days later, everyone went back to their homes, because you were wrong.

            The claim there was a genocide happening against Yazidis, yet no Yazidi was massacred. You claimed Kurds were massacred, yet the Islamic State captured many Kurdish towns, there was no massacres.

            Meanwhile Iraqi militias are openly implementing systematic killings of Muslims, but that is not detected by your bigotry. Meanwhile the jets are bombing Muslims in Iraq and Syria, but your bigotry doesn’t detect such massacres and injustice.

            They claim hundreds of Islamic State fighters have been killed, a liar can say what ever a liar wants to say, last time I remember, US soldiers slaughtered an Afghan officer and two pregnant women in a marriage party, then they said it was an act of Honor killing committed by the Taliban.

    Get real, Israel is not the one that needs to fear for its continued existence, it is the Palestinians who are being systematically executed, starved and tortured out of existence. The real question is not if Israel has a right to exist, but DO THE PALESTININANS HAVE A RIGHT TO EXIST?

      And assuming, Btru2u, that the answer is ‘yes’, since we agree ALL people have a basic right to exist as long as possible, in the freedom of their personal spaces and personal dreams, the next question is ‘where’? My answer would be anywhere in the world they wish, of course.
      But land is coveted everywhere … even useless desert (hot or frozen) is coveted. There is really no ‘free space’ anywhere … populations doing ‘homesteading’ are not given much chance any more. Gypsy life is not appreciated. So one needs to work to purchase, and live within the bounds of whatever ‘society’ one lands in, and become one of ‘all people’ who function that way.
      From a ‘WAR’, some crappy land was possibly the last to be ‘given away’ by a conqueror. To a ‘people’ who the neighbours hated to see making it liveable. I am sure it’s the last time anyone wants to try that gambit. It only lead to more wars. No-one is giving anyone any land any more.
      But as a culture, WE can still all exist – and work to have a home on a piece of land somewhere. And be free to say ‘I am’.
