Lonely Planet logoBack in 2009, and despite the critical security situation that was prevailing in Lebanon, Beirut was selected by the “Lonely Planet” website as one of the top 10 destinations in the world.

Four years later, the same website is warning tourists from heading to Lebanon, urging them to take precautions in case they were obliged to visit Beirut.

According to “Lonely Planet”, kidnapping, blocking roads with burning tires, security incidents and officials’ statements are the main reasons why tourists should not visit Lebanon.

In this context, The New York Times Magazine published an article entitled “The 46 places to go in 2013”. Istanbul was ranked 10th while Beirut remained unlisted.
