Mikati denies offering March 14 veto power in cabinet

Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati’s office denied on Monday offering the March 14 alliance a blocking-third in the upcoming cabinet, MTV reported

His denial comes after MTV reported earlier today that Mikati offered March 14 one-third of the cabinet’s portfolios in addition to MP Tammam Salam, who is considered a political moderate.

The Iranian- and Syrian-backed Hezbollah brought down PM Saad Hariri’s government on January 12 over the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s ( STL) imminent indictment which is widely expected to implicate Hezbollah members in the assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri in 2005 .

Mikati, who was backed by Hezbollah and its March 8 allies including Jumblatt and Mohammad Safadi, was appointed by president Michel Suleiman as PM-designate to form and head the next cabinet , giving Hezbollah and its allies increased leverage in the country and provoking widespread protests.

Jumblatt who, along with his parliamentary bloc had the decisive vote in the naming of PM designate was reportedly subjected to repeated threats by Hezbollah…. forcing him to relinquish his support to Hariri

If our politicians for once just thought for themselves instead of receiving their orders from abroad, then maybe, just maybe we could have a chance of rebuilding this fu&^ed up country.
Lebanon is like a good apple in a bucket of rotten apples. The good apple eventually rots. The only hope we have will come from the blue Meditteranean.
