The Phalange will only participate in cabinet if its March 14 allies participate OTV quoted on Sunday an unnamed Phalange Party source as saying in reference to participate in Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati’s cabinet.
The Phalange party will stand next to its allies, the source added.
In a related development Future Movement bloc MP Mohammad Hajjar said on Sunday that March 14 has delegated to Phalange party leader Amin Gemayel the role of negotiating with Mikati its conditions for participation in the cabinet.’
In another related development House Speaker Nabih Berri who is currently visiting Qatar told Voice of Lebanon : “Matters are progressing in the right direction and we will begin discussing the distribution of portfolios and names of ministers on Monday and added ” Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel’s proposals are acceptable.”
The Iranian- and Syria-backed Hezbollah brought down PM Saad Hariri’s government on January 12 over the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s ( STL) indictment which is widely expected to implicate Hezbollah members in the assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri in 2005 .
Mikati, who was backed by Hezbollah and its March 8 allies including Jumblatt and Mohammad Safadi, was appointed by president Michel Suleiman as PM-designate to form and head the next cabinet , giving Hezbollah and its allies increased leverage in the country and provoking widespread protests.
