Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Monday praised Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s speech which he branded as calm, logical and democratic.

Nasrallah did what is required, Geagea told Central News Agency ( Al-Markaziya) .

“All what Nasrallah said remained within the framework of logic,” Geagea told Al-Markaziya

He noted that Nasrallah seemed convinced that the indictment in the investigation into the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri is mainly based on telecommunications information, but questioned reasons behind Nasrallah’s public revelation of such relevant information.”

“It seems that Nasrallah is convinced that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) indictment is primarily based on telecommunications evidence . We do not know why Nasrallah insists on presenting relevant material he has on the issue to the public.”

“Are speeches the proper way to respond to the infiltration? Shouldn’t they be submitted to an investigation authority?” he asked.

Geagea voiced hope Nasrallah would submit the data he has on the issue to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon ( STL) .

Responding to criticism that the Lebanese government has not taken a stand towards Israel’s infiltration of the country’s telecommunications sector, Geagea said that the violation existed way before 2005, “so why didn’t they speak of it then?”

Geagea stressed that there are no signs that STL is politicized, saying that all accusations against it are politically motivated.

Geagea criticized thwarting Cabinet and national dialogue from convening, calling on the president and prime minister to call Cabinet to session to address the people’s needs.

During his Sunday speech Nasrallah said Israel has infiltrated Lebanon’s mobile telecommunications network and manipulated its phone calls.

“The results of this technological domination and infiltration are eavesdropping, getting access to messages, getting subscribers’ data which helps Israel know where the person is and tracking him wherever , ” he said

He added :” Israel can clone any cellular’s SIM card and is thus able to make any phone call or send any message. The data will thus show that a certain person used the cellular phone when in fact an Israeli did. This can be done to your SIM card without your knowledge. The Israelis can [alter data] in a way where it shows that you are in a certain place when you are not…The Israelis can manipulate the time and place [in issues] pertaining to the person who holds [a certain] cellular phone. The most dangerous thing is that the Israeli can [create] a clone line to certain cellular phones.

He continued: ” It has been proven that the Israeli can manipulate data. The telecommunications sector is dominated by Israel, as was revealed by Telecom minister Charbel Nahas

Nasrallah said he is confident the indictments will be based on such evidence but said it is worthless.
