Cabinet postpones discussion of false witnesses issue

Information Minister Tarek Mitri briefed the media after cabinet session that was held at the Baabda palace ended on Wednesday :

Mitri said the cabinet has decided to discuss the false witnesses issue in the next cabinet session after reviewing the justice minister’s report.

Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar submitted his report on the issue of false witnesses to the cabinet during its Wednesday session, according to local report

Najjar was delegated by the cabinet on August 18 to follow up on the issue of witnesses who gave false testimonies in the investigation of the 2005 assassination of lebanon’ s former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

Earlier today there were reports that Amal ministers threatened to walk out of the Wednesday evening cabinet session unless the issue of false witnesses was brought up, but Mitri denied the reports.

Confirming the earlier reports , Youth and Sports Minister Ali Abdullah told Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV : AMAL ministers will suspend their participation in the cabinet sessions if the false witnesses issue was not resolved.
