Prime Minister Saad Hariri met Tuesday with Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, accompanied by Jordan’s Ambassador to Lebanon Ziad al-Majali.

The meeting Tuesday afternoon at the Grand Serail was also attended by Hariri advisor Mohammed Shatah.

“This visit comes within the framework of the continuous consultation between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Lebanese Republic, and the coordination and consultation between the two governments,” Judeh said following the meeting.

He said he briefed Hariri “in detail about the moves of His Majesty especially during the recent period, and his participation to the important meeting that was hosted by President Obama in Washington, and the resumption of direct negotiations between the Palestinian and the Israeli sides.”

Judeh quoted King Abdullah as saying that “this is an important phase and the road ahead is still hard and difficult. But there is commitment from all sides, and the involvement of the American administration, especially President Obama’s personal involvement which will enhance the chances of success.

He said talks in Washington focused on a comprehensive and just solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict, the return of Arab rights, and the return of the occupied lands to Syria and the rest of the occupied lands to Lebanon, in a way that ensures the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on Palestinian territory.

Judeh described as “very important” the next phase.

“Thus, there is a need for continuous consultation and coordination with the brothers in Lebanon. Also, there should be negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis in a positive atmosphere, which requires high level of responsibility from all sides.” Nahanet
