Gen. Ibrahim may have been the target of an assassination plot

abbas IbrahimLebanese Security forces discovered a large quantity of arms and explosive on Friday evening near the house of General Security chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim in the southern town of Kawthariyat al-Siyyad, National News Agency reported

“Members of the General Security intelligence department in the South discovered a large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives that were packed in nylon bags and placed in three areas near rocks, in the vicinity of … Ibrahim’s house in Kawthariyat al-Siyyad,” NNA reported.

It said the bags were buried there around ten days ago.

NNA added that State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr tasked the army’s Intelligence Directorate to conduct the necessary investigations to identify the perpetrators.

NNA noted that recently Lebanese security forces arrested Syrians admitting they were planning to blow up Abbas’ house.

Last June , Ibrahim who is closely linked to Hezbollah was the target of an “assassination attempt” at a security checkpoint in the Bekaa area of east Lebanon. Abbas escaped unharmed but at least 20 people were injured in the suicide bomb explosion.
