In lebanon, it is all about survival

bread - pita - arabic styleThe following dialogue between a father and his son that appeared on Facebook tells the sad story about the Lebanese people nowadays , the confusion the Lebanese kids are facing in identifying themselves and what parents have to go through to survive.

Dad, are we Sunnis or Shiites?

No sweetheart we are Lebanese

Dad , seriously what are we ?

My Son.. I am Sunni and your mom is Shiite

and you were baptized at a Catholic church

Your sister is Maronite, like her husband

and your brother is going to marry a Druze

Dad, did you do that for national unity ?

No my son, I did this so that whatever happens

one of us will still be able to go out and buy a loaf of bread

More jahiliya poetry and still no action.
Stop the whining, the Syrians proved more courageous than you!

Care to elaborate how what I said is stupid?
Or should we directly move to insults back and forth?

          No no no, not yet!

I just thought the quote was right on and addressed an issue that is a major flaw in Lebanese society. One that keeps Lebanese divided along religious lines. Why do you think he’s whining? And how are the Syrians more courageous than a man who is trying to diversify his family, thus uniting Lebanon as Lebanese.

ok, let’s stay civil then, and keep moms out of it, I might be Iranian.
1- For the xnth time, I believe that Zarkon is my one and only savior.
2- Lebanese are divided along religious line, that’s a fact, a fact that is implied in the poem above since as the story goes the father/normal citizen traded all religions just to have a loaf of bread – survival. So the guy’s intention is not to regroup the religions, he reacted to this fact and found a way to keep supplied with bread. His sole initiative is to survive and not change a fact.
3- Come’s how the Syrians are more courageous than the Lebanese: here’s a population of semi-slaves, well let’s call them serfs. Two bloody dictators, 40 years in power, no end in sight to the new dynasty, powerful control over the elite units, strong alliances mostly thanks to the father, endless reinforcement of weapons and troops… and yet, the Syrians walked on the streets, peacefully at first, got imprisoned, tortured, killed, massacred, gazed and they are still fighting.
            Conclusion:
What did the Lebanese do in face of the oppression in their own country?
They whined on Facebook and found ways to get bread.

You know, I think things like this have more than one way of being interpreted.

I thought of it as a parody of Lebanese society, in an ideal society it would be as such, but in reality we fall short. To me, that was the intention of the writer, that’s why the son asked his father if it was done for national unity. The father replies no, it was done so they can get bread. Almost like national unity is unrealistic and almost a joke to think that its possible. A joke after all can be seen as the truth masked with humor.

The Lebanese had their time on the streets, it caused the Syrians to leave, no? I agree, there is still much more oppression to fight. Starting by getting rid of the corrupt so called “leaders” and demanding new faces with new visions for a brighter future. Enough with this nepotism crap. We have to say no to nepotism and no to corruption, even if they do come around election time and put up some lamp posts and fix some potholes. It’s not enough.

You’re a Zionist “intelectual” cathartic Nihilist projecting doom.. a living dead-man moking Baudelaire, Mozart, religion, the past, the futur, demeaning me (why you defend Christians so much nobody askd you to carry the Cross, hystreria, a baby), but one serious phrase: So you think Jews have also the rigth to live in the Levant?
I answered; The Zionists (not the Jews), didn’t respect the Fouth Geneva Convention Hague resolution of 1907 completly ignored all international laws ..now it’s in the past. What did the future bring? New Israeli generations. each more -Nazis loving cruaulty, racists supremacy. Soldiers take pictures of each other abusing teenagers, children.
Thats what you call “the futur is always better than the past” ?

Freud analised the Animal in Man, Jung gave Freud’s Animal Man a Soul..
That doesn’t mean: Soul is Religion.
Symbols are the ‘inner’ representation of ‘real things’

I insult you with one simple word: the Truth!

“NO COURAGE TO TELL ME FACE TO FACE WHAT YOU THINK OF LEBANESE PEOPLE”, I’m guessing this was the challenge, not sure though.
