“Syria’s ruling Baath party central committee held a lengthy meeting… on Monday morning at which a new national leadership was chosen,” the Baath party website said on Monday.
Vice President Farouk al-Sharaa was replaced , but the country’s embattled President Bashar al-Assad remains the leader of the party and Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi who survived a car bomb attack in the capital, Damascus last April is now a member of the new leadership.
