Syrian opposition expands, adds 43 new members

Syrian National Coalition logoSYRIA’S divided opposition group has officially expanded to include 43 new members, after eight days of meetings marred by internal bickering and international pressure.

The total number of National Coalition members is now 114, acting chief George Sabra told reporters, adding that the general assembly had concluded.

Among the new Coalition seats are “15 from the (rebel Free Syrian Army’s) Chief of Staff, 14 members of the revolutionary movements inside Syria and 14 others”, said Sabra.

He welcomed the FSA and the activist movements’ entrance into the group, adding that “they are the guarantors of the revolution” against President Bashar al-Assad.

Twenty-nine of the group’s seats have yet to be filled. The FSA’s seats will go to civilian members of the rebel army, officials said.

Despite extending what was scheduled to be a three-day meeting, the group has failed to agree on a new president and an interim rebel government.

Though Sabra’s interim mandate has expired, the election of a president has been postponed till “no later than June 12”, said group spokesman Khaled al-Saleh.

The Coalition is recognised by dozens of states and organisations as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people, but it suffers from deep divisions and conflicting international bids for influence that stall its progress.

Sabra said the group had agreed on a “plan for the transitional period”, but did not elaborate.

The group had also set up agricultural, education and health committees to try and mitigate the humanitarian crisis in Syria, he added.

“The group (fouled internally and greatly by Brother’Hoods’) had also set up (paper exercises over useless things in a war) agricultural (with no farmers), education (with no teachers) and health committees (with no doctors from the field who are trapped in all places similar to Qusair with the dying – if they haven’t already been killed in prisons over 2 years anyway).”
“..a “plan for the transitional period”, but did not elaborate (because it cannot even see one happening).”
“… conflicting international bids for influence …” But influence with whom ?? Ass Ad?? El-Supremo??
It’s a Grand Coalition in a Virtual Game – and the thumbs working the controls cannot synchronize.
The real game for now is still about destruction and body-counts.
In a Mystical Future wrapped in a Godly Mantle of death, the game goes on.

Let us reject attempts to divide and conquer Muslims
Let us say NO to sectarianism and hate, let us reject attempts to divide and conquer us. Next time if you see someone promoting hatred and sectarianism and making fun of others do not laugh and support them. Have the courage to tell them not to divide Muslims and instead focus their energies on our real enemies. The pious Shia and Sunni leadership is unanimous in asking their followers to unite, it is high time that we listen to them and stop getting exploited by agents of imperialism no matter how holy they look and how articulate they sound.

The recent visit by Sunni scholars to the Shia victims of Quetta was a slap on the face of those who attempt to divide and conquer Muslims.

Beautifully said, agree 100%. May we stand once again hand in hand and spit in the face of all who try to divide this beautiful religion. To hell with this whole Shite and Sunni crap. Let’s just be Muslim as I our belovered Prophet (PBUH) always promoted.

It is a fact that Muslims today, are divided amongst themselves. The tragedy is that such divisions are not rooted in the Islamic sources, but are later accretions to the understanding of Islam.

    The Glorious Qur’an says:

“And hold fast, All together, by the rope

Which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves;”

    [Al-Qur’an 3:103]

The rope of Allah that is being referred to in this verse is the Glorious Qur’an, the revelation from God Almighty to all humankind.

Islam in fact, prohibits its followers from engaging in sectarian disputes.

    The Glorious Qur’an says:

“As for those who divide their religion and break up Into sects, thou hast no part in them in the least: Their affair is with Allah: He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they did.”

    [Al-Qur’an 6:159]

    2. No Disagreement on the pillars of Islam

While it may be true that Muslims are divided into several sects, often at odds with each other, a closer scrutiny reveals that there is no disagreement on the fundamental pillars of Islam, among the vast majority of Muslims.

    3. Single Identity

The Glorious Qur’an and Prophet (peace be upon him) refers to the followers of Islam as Muslims.

“Who is better in speech Than one who calls (men) To Allah, works righteousness, And says, ‘I am of those Who bow in Islam (Muslim)?’ “

    [Al-Qur’an 41:33]

A Muslim is ‘one who submits’. In that sense, earlier prophets and their true followers were also Muslims.

    4. Ethics of Disagreement in Islam

The ethics of disagreement are very much a part of the Islamic tradition. Muslims have traditionally accepted the existence of a plurality of opinions on various aspects of their religion. While one may hold a certain opinion to be more authoritative as compared to others, there is nothing in the Islamic sources that encourages a Muslim to disparage the views of others.

It was this acceptance of diversity that was a distinguishing feature of the great Islamic civilization. Muslims now need to revive the ethics of disagreement which was in the past, a hallmark of Islamic thought.

I have always looked at the war in syria as a political not religious the war started with people screaming for democracy not for sharia law and it will stay this way. Other religious and non religious figure seen it as an oppertunity to expand their ideaologies only due to the fact they are supporting the victims financially. In saying that not every single one of them is an oppertunist a fare percentage of the population really are only holding a gun to protect their families and homes. Unfortunately there are confused people who cross the borders in hope to help protect the unarmed and those of modest social standing but cause more havoc then what they fix. Their heart is in the right place we all get emotional when we see opressed reguatdless what colour or religion. If they only seek the protection for their own than these i concider oppurtunists. If they dont get emotional seeing oppressed these people are just sick. Inshallah we all wake up and seek this acceptance of diversity so we can esteblish a nation based on jealousy but not of the bad jealousy, the jealousy for one over another.

Sounds reasonable … and I agree, it’s ‘Power Politics’ at work … which is always against ‘the people’, it seems. Religion is the scapegoat … and too many believe in it.
