Hezbollah dividing Lebanon, impacting neutrality

hezbollah parade 9Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah’s decision to fight openly alongside the Syrian regime will increase Lebanon’s involvement in Syria’s conflict, despite a policy of neutrality, analysts say.

“Hezbollah’s public involvement is no longer the world’s worst-kept secret, and now we are in a crisis where the Lebanese are not only politically divided… but also militarily divided,” Ghassan al-Azzi, a professor of political science at the Lebanese University, said.

“Hezbollah’s involvement in the Syrian crisis now involves all of Lebanon because we’ve heard from the other side calls to fight jihad alongside the opposition to the Syrian regime,” he added, referring to Lebanon’s Sunni community.

This week, senior Hezbollah official Nabil Qauq defended the group’s actions in Syria, where its elite fighters are reportedly leading the battle in parts of the Qusayr area of central Homs province near the border.

He said the group’s members were carrying out “a national and moral duty” to defend Lebanese citizens living in border villages inside Syria.

But Wadah Charara, a sociology professor at the Lebanese University, said there was little reason to think the inflamed rhetoric would produce serious domestic instability for Lebanon.

“The impact of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon is worrying, and there may be some incidents, but the general political trend is towards stabilisation and not upheaval,” he said.

Charara, an expert on Hezbollah, said it was forced to publicly acknowledge its role in the conflict by the rising number of deaths among its fighters in Syria.

“It’s a ‘common sense’ policy. In the last year, the party has published photos of some of its activists killed in Syria, but the phenomenon gained momentum with the increasing number of deaths and burials. They couldn’t hide it anymore,” he said.

The movement began explaining to the Shiite community, its base, that it was acting to defend 13 Lebanese Shiite villages inside Syria, which it said were coming under rebel attack.

In addressing the broader public, the movement is trying to maintain the capital it acquired for its “resistance” to Israel during a devastating 2006 war.

“They explain that their fight against jihadists, who are presented as the ‘allies of imperialism and the United States,’ is part of a consistent attitude, not a drift,” he said.

They say “we maintain the same line by fighting against Israel and against the enemies of the Syrian people,” he added.

“But in fact, Hezbollah had no choice,” added Azzi, saying the group’s loyalty to a regime that has long offered it support and aid forced its hand.

“In any case, it couldn’t abandon its alliance with Syria because it’s a question of life or death,” he added

According to Charara, Hezbollah has around 20,000 fighters, between 5,000 and 7,000 of them battle-hardened forces, and has deployed between 800-1,200 members to fight in Qusayr.

Nabil Qwack said the group’s members were carrying out “a national and moral duty” to defend Lebanese citizens living in border villages inside syria!! Then the article continues that these Lebo’s are a string of Shiite villages in syrian borders.
To me that is a religious duty, not a national duty at all. If these towns were Sunni, hizbo’s wouldn’t be there!
Once again, hizbo’s existance is nothing but a sham. They should have amalgamated with the army and worked under a national government, not like a tribe of warlords as in iran or the rest of the third world countries!

All it has ever been is ‘about religion’ … and ‘power’.

      1. .. Hezzbola was a creation .. As a result of Zionist aggression against Lebonon
Syria is under threat from external forces …..,backed up by israel and slumerica once again .. It is natural to have hezzbola respond the way it has.. This is the first war front against Iran .. Once Syria is beaten .. The remaining forces will fight each other ..
Erdogan the caliph is a traitor ..

If it had been much of a democratic ‘creation’ it wouldn’t be led by a ‘Nastyrallah’ spouting religion all the time, and would have had regular elections like any ‘party’ should. But then, it DOES have this in it’s ‘Ayatolla-created’ Manifesto:
‘…. giving the people the chance to choose “with full freedom the system of government they want”, while not hiding its commitment to the rule of Islam.’ – which, of course, immediately killed any chance of ‘the people’ voting in any way except the ‘way’ Mr El-Supremo wanted … (see democracy 101)… which is why Hezzys were ticked off when they only got 2 seats out of 30 last time, and a good reason the country still can’t function ‘as one’ for any progress for it’s people.
When the same Manifesto also states one of it’s 4 main goals is:
“Israel’s final departure from Lebanon as a prelude to its final obliteration”, you KNOW who brings Israel beating on your head all the time. After the Jews departed, they should have been left alone to water their crops as best they could. (Considering the state of the Litani River now, I doubt they will ever want it again anyway.) (Departure good – Obliteration bad.)

          1. .. This is a funny word.. Democracy? Isn’t it.. ?lol .. Looking at the map of Lebonon and Israel .. U can see that most Shia villages are at the border between Israel and Lebonon .. Do u think Sunni would come and help Shia if they are attacked? No I doubt so .. U have a theocratic state which claims its democratic violating every rule in the book , making a mockery out of the UN ..and don’t forget that hezzbola was created because of the actions of Israel..do u really think the Saudi,Jordanian,Bahrainian monarchs are a true representation of Sunni Islam?
I’m a fan of nassrallah, his response when gaza was attacked, his actions was what
Saudi Jordanian and those other idiots on Zionist payrolls should have made.

From the Greek (of course): Demos – ‘the people’, and Kratia – ‘rule’or ‘power’.
‘A form of government in which the people can vote for representatives to govern a state on their behalf.’ – ‘Control of a group by a majority of it’s members.’
A Simple Concept, really. And seemingly ‘fair’ (in most minds).
Which ALL of the people of a ‘group’ must agree to honour, as their ‘system’.

            The most difficult to maintain.
Often contorted by the ‘elected’ – who can, indeed, be dishonourable.
(eg. 4 million NRA ‘members’ control an elected Senate who are supposed to represent 350 million Americans.) (eg. A Party with 2 ‘seats’ after an election, out of 30, controls the other 28 by use of force.) (e.g.. A despot like Hitler has one election – none after.) (eg. A despotic ruler like Assad or Mugabe – or a number of others, like Putin – with rigged vote-counts.) (eg. One ‘Supreme’ directing the perhaps ‘fairly elected’ from a dark corner no-one can see into.)
Yes Kris … funny … a word often used without it’s true simple meaning known.
            Or Honoured.

You got JN threating to light up beirut rockets already finding there way into lebanon 7abibi say there supplies dried out and they lost whose the loser after that?? Ofcourse the lebanese as a whole theres already no work because of the syrians coming in working for peanuts to survive how are they going to reconstruct the buildings find money to send the kids to school instead of being out on the street? You can be a supporter of sharia or sunni or shia or democracy autocracy watever you like but other religions and non religious shouldnt suffer because they want to protect the few shia(so they say even though theres videos of the cockroaches all over syria) they started as a malitia they cant become a political group it doesnt work that way. If your having trouble understanding the true meaning of democracy heres a ‘small’ example. imagine your at a friends house and the majority there dont want you in the house do you tell your friend you wanna stay and cop the insults or do you pick yourself up and leave??

You should also mention that pig Assir. After all he has started the brain washing which has resulted with these idiot Salifi boys signing up for Jihad. Don’t you think that this will also drag Lebanon into a war we don’t need. Or do you consider what he is doing to be the rite thing to do. ?

          5. Assad should have made reforms to the gov, constitution a long time ago..
This war is fueled by the west.. They want to get rid of Shia, alawhite, and their powerbase..once this is done .. The very people the west used to destroy Assad ,will than in turn be labeled terrorists and then they will be hunted ..by that time the humanitarian situation will be so bad .. That the west will get NATO or UN to send “PEACE “keeping forces.. In comes IMF that will give a huge amount of loan to Syria ..get a puppet regime in place .which will be so called democratic. And than smile at Iran.. Coz this is all this war is About.. Syria has very low natural resources
But it’s geopolitical placement is very important to several polities in the region..
Iran uses Syria as a means to project power to the very head of the illegal Zionist entity..and Russia uses Syrian ports to project power in the Mediterranean ..
