The suspect in the Boston marathon bombing is in police custody.

Dzharkhov Tsarnaev, 19, is said to be bleeding and in a serious condition. He has been taken to Massachussets General Hospital.

Police converged on a property said to be on Franklin Street in the Watertown suburb of Boston.

Tsarnaev had reportedly been hiding in a boat in a garden at the property. It is believed a helicopter using thermal imaging was used to check the boat.

On news that Tsarnaev had been captured alive, residents in Watertown who had been stuck indoors all day for security reasons, came out onto the streets and cheered.

The captured suspect’s brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was killed during a shootout with police last night.

Police are also questioning two men and one woman in connection with Monday’s bombing at the Boston marathon, during which three people died and around 170 people were wounded.

A photo of a bloodied man being wheeled away from the Boston marathon explosions, his lower legs destroyed, became one of the most shocking and widely distributed images from Monday’s attack.

The man in the photo Jeff Bauman, 27, was waiting for his girlfriend to cross the finish line when the bomb went off. It took hours before Jeff’s family found out about his condition, learning about it through the grisly images on TV.

Bauman was standing on the sidelines of the race when he saw a man wearing a cap, sunglasses and a black jacket place a rucksack on the ground. Later in hospital, he told his brother of the moment he looked into the eyes of the man who set off the bomb two and a half minutes later. The explosion removed Bauman’s legs from below the knee, killed three people and injured around 170 more.

Speaking to Bloomberg News the victim’s brother said, “He woke up under so much (sic) drugs, asked for a paper and pen and wrote, ‘bag, saw the guy, looked right at me.’”

While still in intensive care, Bauman gave a description to the FBI. His information could have helped police, who faced the task of identifying suspects in hours of CCTV footage from the crowded event. Paul Bresson, a spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, declined to comment on specific tips as the investigation was still ongoing.

Photos of the suspects were released by the FBI on Thursday showing two men in hooded sweatshirts and dark jackets and both wearing backpacks.

Not long after, a massive police operation started in the US city of Boston, following reports of extensive gunfire, explosions and the death of an MIT security officer. The latest information from Boston police is that a suspect in Monday’s bombing has been shot dead after a pursuit.

    Why I am not surprised by the identity of these criminals who are following the teachings of their alleged prophet, who was one of the biggest criminals in history, as he still influences others and entices them to hate and kill after 1,400 years, or so.
    Life for muslims in America may become a little more difficult after this incident. If more incidents like these happen, first generation muslim americans will have to probably move back to their original countries. Granted that 99% of muslims have nothing to do with islamic terrorism and it is not fair to generalize and put everybody in the same pot, but the other 1%, which represents about 15 million people all over the world who are fanatics or potential fanatics, because most of the time these terrorists are usually regular “normal” people (like these 2 brothers), somehow educated, somehow civilized, but eventually they want to please their god and kill as many “kuffars” as possible, as instructed by their prophet.
    We non-muslims cannot distinguish between who is who and cannot figure what is going on in the minds of these terrorists or potential terrorists, so the best way is to stay away from All muslims. America, Canada, Australia and the west in general should stop receiving muslim immigrants, deport any one with criminal behavior, deport any one with fanatic behavior. As all these are exercising Taqqya in the west and are a “bomb” in waiting.
    My advise to America is to get out of Afghanistan ASAP, as these people do not deserve all the help the Americans are offering them. They want a Taliban government let them have it, who cares. America should care about its internal security and screening the people it accepts to come and live in America.
    Nowadays if 99% of muslims are innocent of these terrorist crimes, yet 99% of terrorists are muslims. Any country that has a muslim population, has terror/war/destruction part of its daily life, examples are plenty:
    Let’s start at home in Lebanon: the more islamic a society is the more troubled and terrorized it is: in Tripoli, in Saida, in Baalbeck, in eastern Bekaa, in Aakar, vs. the societies in Kesrouan, Metn, Jezzine, Chouf, Batroun, etc…. In the rest of the world look at the life in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Mali, Somalia, Syria, Bahrain, Chechnya, Irak, Egypt, etc…..not a day passes by where a bomb does not explode and kills innocents (mostly muslims) in the name of the god of Islam.
    Sorry Prophettt, and other muslims, for the grim news, but after 1,400 years it is about time that we face the ugly reality and I tell you what I think without FEAR of being killed or kidnapped or terrorized. Thank God for the internet era.

      I believe the majority of americans do have a much better understanding and tolerance to the fact that not all muslims represent the ideals and violence of typical muslim jihadist and although the events that took place in the marathon are horrid and unacceptable, there is no value in lumping or generalizing as this would make everyone act as indiscriminate as the terrorists do as far as civilians are concerned.

      the interview with the suspects uncle is a perfect and sincere example how he as a muslim totally rejects the deed and any association with it in contrast with the suspects father where he stands in denial and deeming the whole act a s an fbi set up…. my point is the uncle and the suspects father although are brothers stand TOTALLY in two different corners on the issue.

        As I said 5th 99% are innocent and have more human values and “rahma” than their own prophet and god. It is the 1% who are literally applying the instructions given in the Koran, and want to “please their god”. They are happy to die in killing any Kafir as they would be a jihadist and consequently are going to paradise to meet their 72 virgins. This is not a religion, this is insanity made by the Devil ! Because only the devil wants to kill, destroy, create cahos, confusion, uncertainty, plots, and being a hyppocrite liar (the concept of Taqqya – in my face saying something and in my back saying and doing the total opposite).
        So good for the people of Tripoli, they are waking up to want peace, which only comes only from one source: The king of peace whom they don’t know unfortunately.

          Careful Constantin. There ARE a lot of Christians and their churches in Tripoli.
          You don’t hear about them … they are not the ones shooting across Syria Street, or waking the neighbours at midnight on Saturday.
