Fahd al Masri an official of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) told Voice of Lebanon 110.5 radio station that FSA founder Col Riad al-Asaad who has been wounded by a bomb blast in Deir al-Zour province is in critical condition. He added that Iran and Hezbollah may have been behind the attempted assassination of Asaad.
There were conflicting reports about Asaad’s fate, but an FSA spokesman told BBC Arabic earlier that he had lost a leg.
Col Asaad once led the armed rebellion against President Bashar al-Assad, but his position was gradually superseded.
A relative of Asaad told the AFP news agency on Monday that he had been transferred to a hospital in Turkey for treatment.
