Putin warns against interference in Syria, ME

Share:

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that any attempt to unilaterally use force or interfere with events in the Middle East or North Africa would be counter-productive, rebutting growing calls to intervene in Syria’s civil war.

Russia and China have strongly opposed the idea of foreign intervention in Syria, vetoing three United Nations Security Council resolutions backed by Western and Arab states that would have increased pressure on President Bashar al-Assad to stop the bloodshed.

Both countries have also voiced opposition to new sanctions on Iran and to any moves to attack it.

“Attempts to replace the universal principles of the U.N. Charter by unilateral actions or partisan deals, moreover to use force bypassing the U.N. do not do any good, as is well known,” Putin told foreign ambassadors in the Kremlin, where he was receiving their new credentials.

Putin said his warning concerned civil unrest in the Middle East and North Africa, adding that the U.N. Charter was meant to be used to solve problems “through negotiations, without external interference”.

“Incitement of violence in different forms in order to change the regime only pushes the situation into a dead end. Violence creates violence,” Putin said.

Putin’s warning came as Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani told the U.N. General Assembly in New York that Arab nations should intervene in Syria given the U.N. Security Council’s failure to stop the conflict there.

The 18-month-old revolt, which began as peaceful street protests, has escalated into a civil war in which activists say over 27,000 people have died.

Russia accused NATO of overstepping a U.N. Security Council mandate for a no fly zone over Libya last year to help rebels overthrow former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Earlier this month, Putin condemned the attack that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya but made it clear he believed Western support for rebels in Arab countries was fuelling chaos.

“Most recently we received proof that such a position is right. It is time to learn some lessons from what is going on,” Putin said on Wednesday.

Russia has also accused Western nations of encouraging Syrian rebels including armed extremists.

        On this one we differ:
I want to know from Putin, is he with Syria and the Syrian people or is he with the temporary tyrant dictator criminal Bashar. Russia is an ally of Syria, and Syria is the Syrian people not the Syrian president who the Syrian people do not want any more. Don’t forget what Bashar and his father did in Lebanon because some of the people vocalized their wishes for Syrians to get out, now he is doing exactly the same and worse with his own people who are vocalizing their demands for him to abdicate. This does not mean I want a Salafi regime in Syria, far from that, but I don’t think that a Salafi regime would be implemented in Syria if Bashar goes, I think this is Bashar’s alibi to stay in power (i.e. cheap trick to make the minorities fear for their life and defend him till the end). He is leaving sooner than later, I have no doubt, hopefully not like Ghaddafi’s way out, killed and dragged in the streets of Damascus.

i do not think he is leaving neither sooner nor later; it is america who decides and america allowed him to massacre us, or his father, and america is doing the same now in syria; if he leaves, may God forbid, the salafis will govern syria and Lebanon. believe you me i do not like him but he is a necessity and certainly america does not want him to leave; all the actors on this chess game are pawns without any exception and they all execute american orders. The ultimate goal of america is redistribution of the borders in middle east and the creation of mini confessional states; unfortunately for us the christians in Lebanon, because we had criminal leaders like geagea, our prospets for the futur are dim; only an alliance with another minority can save us from the ogre represented by salafism. The same scenario will be reproduced in egypt and they are mirroting to the copts a coptiuc republic with southern soudan; egypt will witness soon a major bloodshed. One important sign that tells us that the middle east will be in peace: when the war between turkey and iran sparkles

Saying that we are all pawns and that America wants him to stay or that America is orchestrating all this war, is such a cliche of Middle Eastern people that never want to take responsibility for their actions and their problems, so blame foreigners especially AMERICA the “biggest evil” for for all our problems.
No Sir, times have evolved and people just want to live with Freedom of speech and have the choice of their political representatives, which Syrians and most Arabs don’t have. Bashar prefers to rule and have his country destroyed rather than leave. Look how Zein el Abidine in Tunisia acted, he was a gentlemen and avoided his country a bloodbath. Yes the Tunisians voted for the Islamists to rule, because they don’t know anything else, but this is a phase that they will have to go through and see that islamists will not improve their lifes and the next election they may vote them out of power, but at least they earned democracy.

At the end, whether you like it or not, the people will triumph in Syria and not Bashar, hopefully soon and not after the destruction of the country and much more blood spelled. As the pope said I admire the perseverance of the Syrian people and their thirst for Freedom.

brother; i am sorry to tell you you are so naive in politics; actually you remind me of those who left Lebanon from one of the remote areas and went to the west either found a job of plumber or are on unemployment office and say: this is life; do not misunderstand me i am not saying this is your case, you just remind me of it. Buddy i am by no means saying america al shaytan, i am one of the admirers of america; all i am saying is that america is behind everything and yes america is machiavellic; actually america would be stupid otherwise. Brother take it easy on your heart: assad or at least assadism is going nowhere: america supports him; i am saying this not from sources that did not revel their identity or some kind of magazine or yaliban like propaganda blogs; i am telling you this from SURE AND CERTAIN WELL INFORMED SOURCES. Ultimately the alawis will have their own country Needless to say the will of people is not important anymore; it might have been in the 19th century; buddy wake up we are in the 21 th century; if america wanted they can tell you what you are doing now with pictures; even you cannot hide from american satellites, they can tape & take pictures & movies of you even in the toilets & this is not james bond fiction; you would be astonished the number of lebanese politicians on their pay roll; you father, wife, sister or daughter may be working for one of them without even knowing it; oops even yourself…..he?

  4. Ezekiel 38 ………
………‘Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal. 4 I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your army, horses, and horsemen, all splendidly clothed, a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords. 5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya are with them, all of them with shield and helmet; 6 Gomer and all its troops; the house of Togarmah from the far north and all its troops—many people are with you.

Well Plumbline … the problem with lines like that is people begin to take them literally and use rusty hooks, or any hacking instrument at hand, when they feel they are doing the work that God wants them to do, and in a short time those splendid clothes don’t look so shiny and clean any more.
Ezekiel may have ‘seen’ some wheels rolling … but do they really need to roll over bodies. ??
