One Lebanese killed at border with Syria

Al-Jadeed ( New TV) TV reported on Sunday that a Lebanese shepherd was killed by gunfire originating from the Syrian side of the Lebanese-Syrian border.

The report said that the shepherd, identified as Jassem Bou Eid, was tending to his flock in the Hermel region in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley when shots were fired across the border with Syria.

This is the second such incident this month . Al-Jadeed cameraman, Ali Shaaban, was killed on the Lebanese side of the Syrian borders reportedly by Syrian army troops early April.

Shaaban was gunned down as he was trying to film a report on the northern border with Syria

Al Jadeed (New ) TV reporter Hussein Khreis and cameraman Abdul Tabaja were also wounded in the attack.

Lebanon’s Al-Jadeed satellite television on April 9 accused the Syrian army of killing Shaaban, saying it opened fire on the crew which was on Lebanon’s side of the border.

Not the first, probably not the last. Last year, the child-shepherd in the south was lucky to escape and only lost some goats – having to ‘give them up’. Things have escalated since then. A boy fishing in the north is another example. Assad and his crew wish to remind us of who runs Lebanon – pastoral shepherds and children are easy targets.
