Sources close to Prime Minister Najib Mikati were quoted by MTV on Friday as saying that the PM “is not maneuvering on the issue of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL)” probing the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
The sources also were quoted as saying “if the STL is not funded, PM Mikati will not be held responsible for the consequences on the Islamic, local, regional and international levels.”
Hezbollah and its allies March 8allies have been campaigning against funding the UN backed STL
Four Hezbollah members have been indicted by the STL in Hariri’s assassination however, the Shiite militant group strongly denied the charges and refuses to cooperate with the court.
Lebanon is supposed to contribute 49 percent of the STL’s annual budget
