Jumblatt left Beirut heading to Paris

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt headed to Paris on Saturday.

“Jumblatt left Beirut heading to Paris,” National News Agency reported.

The purpose of the visit is to attend the wedding of former Minister Ghassan Salameh’s daughter according to PSP sources.

Local newspaper reported on Friday of a possible meeting between Jumblatt and opposition leader former PM Saad Hariri during his stay in Paris . The reports also indicate that MP Marwan Hamade is expected to attend the meeting.

Hariri according to local sources will also be attending the wedding

The relationship between the two leaders was severed following Jumblatt’s realignment with the Hezbollah-led March 8 alliance earlier this year which gave the coalition a parliamentary majority.

Jumblatt, who said he wants to be considered a centrist politician in the government along with President Michel Suleiman and Prime Minister Najib Mikati, has recently made statements that are in contradiction to March 8 positions, drawing speculation that the PSP leader could be switching alliances.

BEIRUT: Three people were wounded after a man tossed a hand grenade in Bab al-Tabbaneh in Triploi, north Lebanon, security sources said Saturday.
The unidentified man tossed the grenade in the area near the Al-Naseri Mosque wounding a mother – 40-year-old Hala Younis – and her two daughters, Iktimal, 6, and Asar, 4, the source said.
Witness, who were questioned by an a brigadier general from the Internal Security Forces, indicated that the explosion resulted after the man tossed the hand grenade that landed beneath a car in the area.
Hala and her two daughters were transferred to Khayri Hospital in Tripoli for treatment.
Members of the Lebanese Army and the ISF have cordoned off the area and set up checkpoints to prevent tensions in the area.
The mainly Sunni neighborhood of Bab al-Tabbaneh sits near the predominantly Alawite Jabal Mohsen, where relations between the two sides has been tense over the past few years.
In July, four people were killed and dozens were wounded when street clashes erupted between the two rival neighborhoods. Calm was restored when the Lebanese Army intervened. But occasional flare-ups have occurred since then.
