Ministerial statement draft awaiting Mikati’s plan for STL

Justice Minister Shakib Qortbawi told Voice of Lebanon on Thursday that the committee responsible for drafting the ministerial statement has finalized many points on the political and development level but is waiting for Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s plan concerning the Special Tribunal for Lebanon STL).

The committee responsible for drafting the ministerial statement held its second meeting on Wednesday and is scheduled to meet on Thursday afternoon in order to continue drafting the statement.

The issue of the UN resolution affecting the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) is one of the most important for the opposition. Mikati has been careful over what to say but Speaker Nabih Berri told Al Jumhouria newspaper in a report published Wednesday in response to a question on the content of the ministerial statement :

“We are also committed to UN resolutions and specially 1701 , but as far as the STL is concerned when we get to it we will pray for it”.

The males only cabinet of 30 ministers was announced Monday June 13 by PM Mikati after nearly five months of deliberations within the Iranian and Syrian-backed March 8 parties.

    Interesting to see how that will affect Mikati’s relationship with Hezbollah if he actually goes on with the STL…

    I also hope Berreh prays for my sanity, because I’ll probably lose it in the next few months.

      The STL goes on by itself … the question is what will happen when the truth (report) comes out. Maybe it won’t, because the truth might pop all the guns out again …. oh … wait … it’s already happening in Tripoli. 🙁

        Exactly…it’s almost obvious they’ll claim Hezbollah or Syria did it (which I think they did)…but it’ll be chaos 🙁

      The STL goes on by itself … the question is what will happen when the truth (report) comes out. Maybe it won’t, because the truth might pop all the guns out again …. oh … wait … it’s already happening in Tripoli. 🙁

    They have opposed the STL from the very beginning, they attacked it,threatened it and will continue to oppose it and attack it!It has existed and will continue to exist in spite of all and it is doing its job !

    There they go with that “The males only cabinet of 30 ministers ….”  stuff again. Bad enough there are no females, but why flaunt the fact??
    And, by the way, are there any women daring to ‘post’ here ??
