Protesters block a main Lebanon highway over gas prices

MTV reported that protesters blocked the Sawfar highway to protest against the increase in gas prices.

The highway is the main road that links Beirut and Damascus, Syria

The Crude oil futures which determines the price of refined fuels is currently over $111, which is about 20 % higher than it was a month ago

Protesters also blocked the Beirut – Damascus highway with burning tires

they also blocked the entrance to the resort town of Aley .

The army reportedly intervened to reopen the road

    come on guys, how much crude oil is produced in Lebanon.. we pay for gas just like anyone else, the market going price, I know the oil companies use every excuse to raise their prices, but the government has no influence over that…..maybe we need to look for other alternatives, buses, carpool…I feel very bad for those who pay most of their salary on gas, but subsidizing the oil prices will increase the debt on our country… bad situation …where are our politician and their magic wand to resolve this problem
