Allouch: Fear of Hezbollah arms behind Jumblatt’s shift

Share:

Future Movement official Mustafa Allouch told MTV on Friday: “The fear of arms is what led to Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt’s shift in alliance.”

“Jumblatt twists and turns to justify his stance,” Allouch also said, adding that a civil war requires two armed parties, but the only armed party in Lebanon is Hezbollah.

He also told MTV that Hezbollah’s arms and not the tribunal are the fundamental issue in Lebanon crisis.

The March 14 coalition will not participate in the next cabinet, the Future Movement official said, adding that the ball is in Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati’s court.

“If Mikati decides to commit to what the [Dar al-Fatwa’s] statement approved of, then there is no need for March 14 to participate in the cabinet since the Ministerial Statement will be [based on Dar al-Fatwa’s] statement. March 14 will then move into opposition to monitor the implementation of the Ministerial Statement.”

Sunni political and religious leaders attended an “Islamic meeting” at Dar al-Fatwa last week, following which they issued a statement warning against “giving up on Lebanon’s commitment to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).” Mikati attended the meeting and reportedly accepted the statement.

Allouch condemned the campaign against President Michel Suleiman and said it aims at disrupting the balance in the country.

He was referring to the attack that was launched Wednesday by Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun against Suleiman .

Najib Mikati was appointed to the premiership on January 25 with the Hezbollah-led March 8 coalition’s backing and has called on all parties to join his cabinet. Mikati won the nomination after Jumblatt and party MPs from his bloc voted with March 8 in parliamentary consultations.

Sunni political and religious leaders attended an “Islamic meeting” at Dar al-Fatwa last week, issuing a statement afterward that warned against “giving up on Lebanon’s commitment to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL).” Mikati attended the meeting and reportedly accepted the statement.

Some March 14 figures are continuing talks with Mikati on cabinet participation while others have announced that the coalition will enter the opposition.

The Iranian- and Syrian-backed Hezbollah brought down PM Saad Hariri’s government on January 12 over the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s imminent indictment which is widely expected to implicate Hezbollah members in the assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri in 2005 .

Nagib Mikati, who was backed by Hezbollah and its March 8 allies including MP Walid Jumblatt and Mohammad Safadi, was appointed on January 25 by president Michel Suleiman as PM-designate to form and head the next cabinet , giving Hezbollah and its allies increased leverage in the country and provoking widespread protest.

On Monday U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton accused Hezbollah of hijacking Lebanon’s democracy.

The Lebanese “deserve to have their democracy respected and their voices heard, and not have one element of their society using the threat of force and the potential of violence to try to achieve political ends,” she said.

This was a possible reference to the alleged Hezbollah threats against MP Walid Jumblatt and his PSP parliament members that forced them to switch allegiance to Hezbollah’s PM candidate

Soulmate or anyone in M8 think that we’re waiting for Israel or the US to find a solutions for us you’re dead wrong. However and here is part of an article that was written on Now Lebanon and I believe its contents and its talk about the money laundering and drugs Hezbollah is doing. This is not the first time Hezbollah is caught in the act. So if your dogs stick to resistance and truly care about Allah and Islam they would do and practice such things. Here is most of the article:

From money laundering and narcotrafficking to the Hariri assassination, Hizballah’s track record of worldwide criminal activity may soon catch up with its political ambitions at home.

Conspiracy to Support the Taliban -The latest charges against Hizballah, released February 15, are the product of an international sting operation led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), targeting seven suspects who allegedly conspired to provide support to DEA sources posing as Taliban representatives. Beginning in summer 2010, meetings in Benin, Ghana, Ukraine, and Romania were caught on audio and videotape.

Some of the suspects agreed to receive, store, and move tons of Taliban heroin, while others were wiling to sell the Taliban representatives substantial quantities of cocaine that could then be sold at a profit in United States. Still others — including an Israeli national, Oded Orbach, and Alwar Pouryan, an Iranian national described by one of his fellow conspirators as “a weapons trafficker affiliated with Hizballah,” both U.S. citizens — allegedly held a series of meetings in Ghana, Ukraine, and Romania to discuss the weapons they planned to sell to Taliban representatives. These reportedly included surface-to-air missiles, antitank missiles, grenade launchers, and AK-47 and M-16 rifles.

Trafficking Drugs and Laundering Money – Last month, the U.S. Treasury Department blacklisted Lebanese drug trafficker and money launderer Ayman Joumaa, along with nine other people and nineteen businesses involved in his enterprise. According to Treasury, an extensive DEA investigation revealed that Joumaa laundered as much as $200 million per month from the sale of cocaine in Europe and the Middle East via operations in Lebanon, West Africa, Panama, and Colombia, using money exchange houses, bulk cash smuggling, and other schemes. In addition, several Lebanese entities were designated under the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act, including the landmark Caesar’s Park Hotel, a shipping company, several money exchanges, and a holding company. Two weeks after this drug-related action, authorities targeting a Hizballah-affiliated Lebanese bank revealed that the group “derived financial support from the criminal activities of Joumaa’s network.”

On February 10, the Treasury Department identified the Lebanese Canadian Bank (LCB) and its subsidiaries as “a financial institution of primary money laundering concern” under section 311 of the USA PATRIOT Act. Aided by key bank managers, including some with family ties to members of his network, Joumaa used LCB accounts to execute sophisticated trade-based money laundering schemes. For example, LCB used U.S. correspondent banking relationships to send suspiciously structured electronic wire transfers to American used car dealerships, some of which have come up separately in other drug-related investigations. The funds were used to purchase cars in the United States, which were then shipped to West Africa or elsewhere and sold. Ultimately, the proceeds were repatriated to Joumaa’s network in Lebanon. Based on information from “law enforcement and other sources,” Treasury reported that LCB was complicit in international drug trafficking and money laundering.

LCB is the eighth-largest Lebanese bank by assets, worth more than $5 billion in 2009, with thirty-five branches in Lebanon and a representative office in Montreal. Treasury linked LCB managers to Hizballah officials based outside Lebanon, including Abdallah Safieddine, the group’s Tehran-based envoy. The bank was also tied to Hizballah through one of its subsidiaries, the Gambia-based Prime Bank, which Treasury revealed is partly owned by a Hizballah supporter in Lebanon.

Prime Suspects in Hariri Assassination -Hizballah is greatly concerned about the prospect of public indictments in the Hariri case, in large part because some of the group’s senior members have already been named in the media as potential suspects. These include Qassem Suleiman, Hajj Salim, Abdul Majid Ghamloush, brothers Hussein and Mouin Khreis, and, most significantly, Mustafa Badreddine. The latter is the brother-in-law of Imad Mughniyah — the assassinated chief of Hizballah’s external operations, known as the “Islamic Jihad Organization” (IJO) — and himself a senior IJO official.

      nabil,
Stop your copy and paste tactic in order to prove your point. Tell us what you think instead.
It’s intellectual dishonesty ,and naivety at its best.lol
People usually refer to a sentence or a small paragraph, to emphasize a point, but not a whole article. Mine as well put the link of that artical.lol
Using “Now Lebanon” as a source is a horrible idea(I never waste my time on that site ). My advise to you is look for an independent ,and more objective source of information. Imagine a M8 commentator using an article from al manar to prove something. It would sound silly and stupid.lol

Prophet if people use some articles before you criticized them for not saying the source. So now you say you don’t trust them.. why just because they have various opinions of different people. the other day there was an article criticizing March 14th and it was good article because they said that they were hosting the Egyptian Embassy staff while Riots in egypt. they criticized for other things too. And I happened to agree with the criticism anyway. I merely put most of the article to state what I always said before. That Hezbollah has gone beyond the resistance mode and instead turning into drug dealers and money launderer to support their oraganizations. They have been caught in many acts and you don’t seem to like that. Its okay whenever people criticize heabollah it seems to rile your feathers. And I really could careless if it does or not. this is the truth and Hezbollah, Syria and Iran are responsbile for many assassinations in Lebanon and it shows the way they have been behaving toward the STL and Lebanese in general. So this is my point and I am being straight forward what I think about the so called Resistance and more like drug cartels.
