The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) issued a statement Thursday denying media reports that they raided a Beirut hotel.

The statement also said that reports of heightened security measures on the outskirts of certain institutions in Beirut are also unfounded.

The LAF called on “all media outlets to be accurate and cautious in issuing news relating to security and to confirm the truth of [any] information with the army command.”

New TV reported on Thursday that an LAF unit raided the Habtoor Hotel in Beirut’s Sin al-Fil neighborhood on Wednesday night on suspicion that “security groups were present from from two Arab countries.”

Tension escalated in Lebanon following reports that the Qatari and Turkish mediation efforts to end the crisis in Lebanon failed
