Al Manar: A solution for Lebanon impasse is nearly ready

“A solution to the Lebanese impasse is nearly ready and is awaiting the recovery of Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdel Aziz’s ,” Al-Manar television reported on Wednesday.

The report did not provide any further details.

On November 12 the king underwent surgery in New York for herniated disc.

Saudi and Syrian officials have reportedly been working on a compromise that would resolve tensions in Lebanon over the imminent STL indictment . Reports say that the STL may soon indict Hezbollah members in its investigation of the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese PM Rafik Hariri.

In a related development Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdel Karim Ali voiced hope that a compromise would be achieved in the coming days to put an end to the current Lebanese political impasse. he made the statement following a meeting with Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Franjieh.

Similarly Speaker Nabih Berri’s visitors on Wednesday quoted the speaker as voicing hope that January will be a month during which Lebanon will witness easing of tension

“We have to make use of the Syrian-Saudi initiative,” Berri was quoted as saying during his regular Wednesday parliamentary meeting.

MTV also quoted today Berri as saying:” The “S-S” initiative is still on and Prime Minister Saad Hariri is aware of these optimistic prospects, unlike his March 14 allies.”

According to local reports , Berri intends to call for a parliamentary session before the end of January.
