Speaker Nabih Berri was quoted by MPs who attended the weekly Wednesday meeting as saying that bringing up the issue of Scud missiles is a ploy to divert attention from the developments between the Palestinian Authority and Israel.
He was reported as saying: “Bringing up the issue of the missiles is aimed at turning attention away from attempts to drag the Palestinian Authority into negotiations without any guarantees … over ending settlement expansion in Jerusalem and other areas.”
Furthermore, Berri added that this is all a “cover up for the complications in U.S.-Israeli relations.”
“Israel has all sorts of modern warplanes and its entire arsenal is superior to those of Arab states,” the MPs quoted Berri as saying.
“It is our right to defend ourselves through all possible means.”
