Mitri: The cabinet wants to hold muncipal elections on time

Lebanon’s Information Minister Tarek Mitri briefed the media following the cabinet emergency meeting at the Baabda palace

The discussions mainly focused on the Municipal elections :

– The cabinet discussed the preparation for the elections and the amendments that could be made to the municipal electoral law.

– The cabinet reiterated its desire to hold the elections on time even if no agreement is reached on reforming the laws and agreed to use the previously printed ballots

– the cabinet debated proportional-representation system and how to guarantee representing all the Lebanese in the elections but no agreement has been reached on this issue.

– The cabinet decided to discuss other pending matters during its upcoming session on Wednesday, February 17
