Indonesia's President Joko Widodo leads a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in JakartaIndonesian President Joko Widodo said China’s claims to the majority of the South China Sea have “no legal foundation in international law,” he told Japan’s Yomiuri newspaper in an interview published on Sunday.

This was the first time Widodo, who took office in October, has taken a position on the South China Sea dispute.

Indonesia, the largest country in Southeast Asia, has been a self-appointed broker in the myriad territorial disputes between its neighbors and China over the South China Sea.
