March 14 General Secretariat Coordinator Fares Soueid criticized the Christian support for the Syrian regime, saying that it will backfire on the Christian communities and will only bring them disasters.
“The involvement of some groups and Christian churches in defending the Syrian regime, under the pretext that the alternative would be more threatening to them, will only bring disasters to the Christians,” Soueid wrote on the social networking site Twitter on Monday.
“It is unfortunate that some churches are mitigating Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s cruelty.”
The March 14 official also criticized the presence of a Christian minister at the Geneva II peace talks as part of the Syrian regime delegation.
“We expect the oriental churches to come up with a clear condemnation of such acts.”
