During a meeting with Lebanese Forces members and a delegation of French Journalists on Wednesday, LF leader Samir Geagea said the alliance between Hezbollah and the Free Patriotic Movement is “unnatural and contradicts the historical pillars of the Lebanese Christian community’s politics.”
He also said his party insists on respecting constitutional deadlines and holding the municipal elections as scheduled in May. The draft law can be adopted during the next municipal elections, he added.
According to Geagea, criticism against the 2007 US-Internal Security Forces agreement is “the biggest smear campaign in Lebanon’s modern history.” He noted that the March 8 alliance, which is slamming the agreement, was and is part of the current and former cabinet. It is an aid, training and equipment agreement rather than cooperation one, he said.
Geagea said he will not visit Damascus before all pending issues between Lebanon and Syria are resolved, namely the delineation of the borders, Lebanese detainees in Syrian prisons and disarming the Palestinian military bases along the Lebanese-Syrian border.
He added that his party awaits the results of Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s trip to Damascus in April. Lebanon Now
