A powerful bomb apparently rigged to a vehicle exploded Monday during rush hour along a main road in the southern Philippine city of Cotabato, killing at least 6 people and wounding more than 30 others, officials said.
The blast and the subsequent fire caused power failures in nearby communities, the police said. The Philippine authorities did not immediately point to any suspects, but a breakaway Muslim rebel faction opposed to peace talks between the government and a main insurgent group has carried out attacks and bombings in the region.
