Security forces arrested on Sunday a gunman after he pointed his gun at the MP Elie Marouni’s convoy near the Phalange party headquarters in the Beqaa city of Zahle, National News Agency NNA reported .

According to NNA the attacker who was identified with his initials B.H., was in a white Honda when he pointed the gun at the convoy after it reached the party’s headquarters.

The security forces immediately dispatched patrols to the area and arrested the attacker, NNA reported.

Last month Marouni criticized the security situation in the country and Lebanon’s dissociation policy towards the situation in Syria

He said that Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s cabinet was “dissociating itself from Lebanon.”

“With this government, there is no security [on all levels],” Marouni said during the parliamentary plenary session on April 18

He also said that the cabinet has not achieved anything.

“We ask about the uncontrolled border in Bekaa and the North. Today, this cabinet is incapable of defending the country and it is not [working] toward supplying weapons to the army because it has to keep justifying the present illegitimate arms,” he said, in reference to Hezbollah’s arms.
