Hezbollah MP Mohammad Raad said on Sunday ” betting that the collapse of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime will serve the interest of the west is delusional.”

“Those who are gambling on change in Syria or in Lebanon are delusional,” Raad added

The Hezbollah MP stressed that Lebanon “should not be used as a tool that serves the imperialist, aggressive project,” a reference to the United States and western Europe.

“The Western countries that are gambling on bringing chaos back to our region are desperate and are over the verge of becoming bankrupt.” He added

Raad made statements during a ceremony at al Husseini club in Adsheet in south Lebanon.

Lebanon’s political scene is split between supporters of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, led by Hezbollah, and the pro-Western March 14 camp which supports the pro-democracy protests against the Baathist Syrian regime.

Over 6200 Syrians, mostly civilians, have been killed in a crackdown by Damascus to 10 end months of anti-government protests, according to Human Rights organizations.

According to analysts Syrian president Bashar al -Assad is frightened of the direction that the Syrian revolution is headed in, particularly as it is clear that it is moving towards the complete collapse of his internal regime.

If Assad goes the big losers will be Hezbollah and Iran. According to observers Hezbollah has already begun to prepare for this eventuality and has been planning to move a large percentage of its long-range missiles ( stored on Syrian side of the border in order to avoid Israeli attacks on them ) into Lebanon .
