Assad: Syria will set Middle East on fire if attacked

Syria will strike Israel and “set fire” to the Middle East if NATO forces choose to launch a military strike on the protest-ridden country, the Iranian news agency Fars quoted Syrian President Bashar Assad as saying on Tuesday, referring to remarks made by the Syrian leader during a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu last August.

During a meeting with the Turkish FM, the Fars report claimed, Assad indicated that Syria would not hesitate to strike major Israeli cities if it was attacked.

“If a crazy measure is taken against Damascus, I will need not more than 6 hours to transfer hundreds of rockets and missiles to the Golan Heights to fire them at Tel Aviv,” Assad said.

In addition, Fars reported that the Syrian president told the Turkish FM that he would also call on Hezbollah in Lebanon to launch a rocket attack on Israel, adding: “All these events will happen in three hours, but in the second three hours, Iran will attack the U.S. warships in the Persian Gulf and the U.S. and European interests will be targeted simultaneously.”

    been killed when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.
    The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups
    for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from
    abroad.
    The US and the European Union have been criticizing Damascus
    throughout the unrest, accusing of repressive rule. The Western alliance
    recently went so far as calling for Assad’s ouster and threatening the
    sovereign country with wide-ranging economic sanctions and foreign
    military invasion.
    Turkey as a NATO member has also warned on various occasions that it would take action against Bashar al-Assad’s government.

        How can you say Lebanese were syrians!! Every syrian wishes that Lebanon or Lebanese were from syria because we have had more success and affect on the world than all the arabs put together, in historical and modern times.
        Lebanon has always had its own identity, it has never or ever will be part of syria, and the Lebanese are just LEBAnESE, made up from from different cultures and mainly Phoenician who were inhabitants of this blessed land.
        Having a priest and 5 or 6 people with him crossing the border into Lebanon does not justify that Lebanese are syrians.

    I don’t think a NATO strike is the best option to dislodge this wanker. The best option is for Turkey and other willing nations to start arming the free Syrian army and to bolster the newly formed Syrian National Council. This will phase out the regime gradually and ensure an orderly albeit not bloodless transfer of power. Turkey must also not intervene directly with its forces as this could be a US/Europe trap similar to Iraq/Kuwait. Israel’s interest is paramount to the US and Europe and a direct clash between Turkey and Syria could be seen by these nefarious entities as an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.

    If Turkey is smart it will arm the free Syrian army secretly keeping its neighbors Russia and Iran at bay.

    The majority of the Syrian people want Bashar out of power but they can’t do anything because the balance of military power is tilted towards Bashar and his thugs. The solution is to tilt that balance towards the Syrian people.

      Well I guess we know where you’re coming from. Better advise ‘Al Shishkabob’ in Somalia and the Taliban elsewhere to learn to read a book too. I’m sure they could use SOME of those verses from the Qur’an … you know, the ones from the original version.
      Hope your not forgetting the difference of ‘concept’ between what Jesus-the-carpenter taught by word and deed to those who listened and recorded, and what Muhammad-the-warrior wrote himself later as a book of life-directions for those forced to choose between becoming muslim or death.
      Going back into history to find all the inhumanities of humans who use ‘religion’ as an excuse for what they do to other humans is hardly an excuse for what they do to them NOW. And you certainly can’t blame only Christians for that, although we KNOW about the excesses of the dark ages, the crusades, the witch-hunts, and ALL the megalomaniacs like Vlad, Hitler, Stalin, Qadaffi, and Assad. We record the events and histories, and try to learn from them – AND allow for OPEN EDUCATION of the children so that they will perhaps find a better path for all humans in the future. If they have chosen ‘Democracy’ as the best way to govern themselves FOR the benefit of all in their societies, it is because they learned from the histories that planting ‘belief’ into people’s heads does nothing for mankind’s advancement.
      If YOU want to believe that there are 72 virgins waiting for a man (only – women excluded) if he blows himself up and kills as many innocent others as possible, then go ahead … believe it.     jameela, i am not sure if you can list you hate on  ebay as pesticide but start by keeping a bucket near you mouth to catch all that  hatefull venom.
    many people misrepresented  christianity and islam and not one of them will escape  judgement . the biggest misrepresentation of humanity is you being a messenger of allah. only those who do not believe god exists resort to palying god  and killing and justifying as your hero hitler did. clearly you are not familiar with true christininty and do not represent the view of all moslems.
