An Egyptian court convicted former finance minister Youssef Boutros-Ghali in absentia on Saturday and sentenced him to 30 years in prison for squandering public funds and abuse of other funds, a court source said.

The court also ordered him to return 30 million Egyptian pounds ($5.05 million) and to pay an additional 30 million pounds in fines, the source said.

Ghali was Egypt’s Minister of Finance between 2004 and 2011 and is the nephew of former UN secretary General Boutros Boutros Ghali
