Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hussam Zaki slammed on Thursday Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun’s statements on the terrorist attack that struck a Coptic church in Alexandria, Egypt and said it reflects the MP’s “animosity towards Egypt.”

Aoun’s statements are laughable, Zaki said, adding that it is better for Aoun to abstain from making silly statements and focus instead his attention on his own affairs and followers who are decreasing day by day as a result of his contradictory statements and suspicious alliances.”

This comes after Aoun, a close ally of the Iranian backed Hezbollah commented on the Alexandria incidents on Tuesday by saying: “Egypt appears to moderate only when dealing with Israel instead of certain category of the Egyptian society.”

“We have grown accustomed to Aoun issuing statements that reflect wrong political readings and here he is again making remarks that confirm his complete lack of understanding of the Egyptian reality and lack of social feeling,” Zaki added.

Zaki concluded :”At any rate, Egypt has received enough condolences from the major Lebanese figures, starting with President Michel Suleiman and representatives of the Maronite sect that Aoun belongs to.”

An explosion in front of a Coptic church in Alexandria, Egypt on Saturday just a few minutes into 2011( at 12:20 ) left behind 23 dead and dozens of seriously injured churchgoers and passers-by. The suicide bombing sparked worldwide condemnation of violence against Middle East Christians.
