Minister of State Jean Ogassapian accused on Sunday“ the other side leaked information to Der Spiegel in order to provide material for the campaign that they are now conducting.”
This is in reference to the Hezbollah led March 8 campaign against the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) over the possible indictment of Hezbollah members in the assassination of Lebanon’s former PM Rafik Hariri .
Everything related to STL is beyond dialogue , and what is important is how the tribunal’s indictment is dealt with, Ogassapian told Future TV.
Last month March 14 MP Okab Sakr told LBCI television that some people will choke when he will reveal all the details on the issue of false witnesses and warned that he will expose the issue from A to Z.”
“Some people will choke when we reveal all the details,” he added.
Last September Sakr said during a press conference“What was published by the German Der Spiegel was fabricated by Jamil Sayyed.”
In May 2009, the German magazine Der Spiegel reported that the STL was investigating Hezbollah members’ potential involvement in former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s 2005 assassination.
Sakr urged Hezbollah last September to beware and not to play with fire saying there were attempts to ignite Shiite-Sunni strife in the region. He stressed that Hezbollah should take the responsible stance toward whoever poisoned the relations between the Lebanese people and the Resistance.”
Observers believe that Sayyed , a close ally of the Syrian regime may have attempted in his disclosures to Der Spiegel to exonerate Syria from the accusation of being behind Hariri’s assassination.
Tension escalated in Lebanon following reports that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon will soon issue its indictment into the 2005 assassination of Lebanon’s former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Last July, Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said that the tribunal is “an Israeli project” that will indict Hezbollah members. Nasrallah accused Israel of being behind Hariri’s assassination but refused to provide the evidence to STL to support his claim. Hezbollah and its March 8 allies have been calling for the abolition of STL.
Some leaders are concerned that should the court indict Hezbollah members, it could lead to a Shiite-Sunni strife, others aren’t as worried and see this as a desperate intimidation by Hezbollah against truth and justice that will only lead to more damages to its image in both Lebanon and the entire region.
Al Akhbar newspaper reported last week that Hezbollah has prepared a plan to take over Lebanon when STL issues its indictment for the 2005 murder of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
Nasrallah said in his speech last Thursday that Hezbollah will not allow the arrest of any of its members if indicted by STL : “Any hand that will touch any of them will be cut off, ” he said
On October 28, he called on all Lebanese to boycott the STL and to end cooperation with its investigators.
Yesterday Oghassabian told MTV: Today, the whole of Lebanon is waiting and wondering when would Hezbollah act militarily and cripple the state institutions, and what March 14’s possible reaction will be.
