Caretaker prime minister, Hassan Diab reportedly distanced himself from the controversy that erupted in the wake of the announcement by Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, that an Iranian ship loaded with fuel is about to arrive in Lebanon, and referred the issue on how to unload it.tanker to Energy Minister Raymond Ghajar.

    David Shenkar, an American diplomat who served as the US Assistant Secretary of State for the Middle East and is considered a key figure in American policy in Lebanon, said today in a press interview that:
    “Nasrallah’s announcement of the launch of an Iranian fuel ship to Lebanon is a story that a rational person cannot believe. It is a political exercise aimed at easing popular anger against Hezbollah over the smuggling of subsidized Lebanese fuel to Syria.”
    Shankar also said, in response to the claim that Nasrallah’s announcement motivated the American ambassador to authorize Lebanon to receive electricity from Jordan, via Syria, that this was all a matter of random timing
