Dubai official warns of ‘clash of civilizations’ if Trump is elected US president

Share:

trumpA top security official in Dubai warned Friday of a “clash of civilizations” if U.S. Republican candidate Donald Trump becomes president, the latest sign of disquiet across the Middle East over the businessman’s comments about Muslims.

Trump refused to back away from his recent statement that “Islam hates the West” during a Republican debate Thursday night in Miami, which came after he called in December for a ban on Muslims entering the United States.

Trump said he wouldn’t stoop to being “politically correct” by avoiding such statements.

Lt. Gen. Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, the deputy chairman of police and general security in Dubai, took to Twitter to respond. Referencing political scientist Samuel P. Huntington’s theory that future wars would be fought between cultures, Tamim warned that a Trump win could see him face Islamic State group leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

“If Trump beats Hillary (Clinton), that means that the scenario of the clash of civilizations created by Samuel will come to light at the hands of the candidate and al-Baghdadi,” Tamim wrote.

Trump has for years looked to do business in the Middle East, particularly in the Gulf and the emirate of Dubai. Trump has lent his name to two high-profile Dubai golf course projects and an ongoing real estate development, and sought for years to expand his hotel chain into the region.

Since his comments in December, a Mideast company, the Dubai-based Landmark Group, said it would pull all Trump home decor products at its 180 Lifestyle stores in the region as it “values and respects the sentiments of its customers.”

In Lebanon, Abdelsalam Shalash, a resident of the capital, Beirut, said Trump is trying to win by playing on people’s fears.

“He is using propaganda to convince people that our enemy is either the Muslims or the Mexicans, and it’s rallying up a lot of people because people are afraid,” Shalash said. “And fear is one of the easiest concepts to make use of.”

Newspaper columns and editorials in the region roundly have criticized his comments.

An editorial published by the Lebanese English-language Daily Star newspaper, said the thought that “a man whose knowledge of geography, history and theology is nonexistent may reach the Oval Office is terrifying and deeply concerning.”

“A Trump White House would be detrimental to the American people, but as commander-in-chief of the world’s most powerful country, his reach will affect hundreds of millions more,” the newspaper said.

“It is no wonder that the world recoils from this prospect, and one can only hope that the United States will do too,” it added.

…. Years of being ‘mislead’, perhaps … especially educationally. But NOT all ‘States’ are the same … fortunately … maybe …

Ofcourse misled, the word muslim to the current frontrunners is a slurr even to the black president himself who was”accused” of being a muslim.
He has always denied it but never had the balls to say and so what if i was?!

I mean really? The english invaded over half the world, how many languages do they speak? How much culture have they embraced “besides dance and food”(since it doesn’t disrupt the systemic white society)

Yet these guys think bekng muslim is bad geez

Blacks know a Black when they see one … Obama isn’t one of them. Reminds me of Hariri a little. ;-))) I’d say the English embraced Tea, and Tobacco, at least. I know a Portuguese Lady who speaks 6 languages … English is the most versatile and ‘free’, but the ‘accents’ of some make it misunderstood often. ;-)))
Have Arabs tried Mandarin? But of course, not everyone does Acupuncture yet either … sinking swords in was not the basic idea for the ‘healing’ factors, and a body must be exposed to know where a needle should meet a nerve. Females have the same nerves.
          ;-))
Reality … Everyone should have a choice of what to take from any given religion.
Bad characters take the worst – suits their ‘nature’ more easily. The ISISies surprised everyone in the world who can’t believe so many humans can be born insane, or have so much enjoyment from torturing animal-bodies, but there it is – a percentage of a growing population shows the ‘way’, and the ‘De-Sade’ types gather in a club.
Assume there’s a club for Rednecks too – They love ‘Trump-Talk’. But if they can finally figure out what he’s going to do with their money (rarely discussed, it seems) I’m sure he’ll only get the laughs from the audience – especially if they haven’t been drinking the lead-pipe water of ‘some cities’, or the rust from iron pipes in others, which factors may cause wide variances in thought patterns, along with the run-off from the land. :-))))))

The phrase: ‘You are what you eat.’ often comes to mind. I’m sure people will vote with that in mind. :-)))))

          4. I will freely say….Death to Islam, jihad and all the other religious BS that is forced upon people. These braindead Islamist will get the fight they so ask for. Islam MUST accept free speech or go back to its hell-hole it came from. Not acceptable in the west (or anywhere) to force religious dogma with violence. No wonder Islamic countries are so economically and socially retarded.

“Canada does not recognize permanent Israeli control over territories occupied in 1967 (the Golan Heights, the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip).

The Fourth Geneva Convention applies in the occupied territories and establishes Israel’s obligations as an occupying power, in particular with respect to the humane treatment of the inhabitants of the occupied territories. As referred to in UN Security Council Resolutions 446 and 465, Israeli settlements in the occupied territories are a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention.

The settlements also constitute a serious obstacle to achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace.”

I DO NOT say that what we think of as a democratic system is ‘equal’ to others. THAT would be a fallacy. And yet the promotion of it generally recognizes that it includes some free speech and ability to criticize itself. EVEN Israelis are struggling with that now.
AND I’d say that it’s up to an individual to decide if they want to do business with some other land somewhere … although restrictions obviously can be placed by any country on another as well. I agreed with his “must accept free speech” … not his silly epithets … which he may have copied from others who voice similar silliness. Agreeing with something doesn’t mean I like him …. or anyone, for that matter. And if I punt my opinions on ‘life’ it’s ok if you don’t agree with all of it. Frankly, at this point, I’m not sure there are any brains left over there anyway.
The attitudes are literally killing my friends. Now. There is no ‘reason’ … not in the history, or in the present, WHY that should be happening to them. None. But the insanity of WAR goes on, and they cannot escape it – or their fate.

Arab countries are not institutionalized like other countries in the world, because of the West divide and conquer since 200 years.
It would take Arab younger generations 300 years for the population to be absorbed into Democracy.

Pundits fixated on the religious dissonance between Sanders and Michigan’s Arab and Muslim American overlooked real conditions on the ground.  Dearborn is the home of Ford Motor Company, and the blue-collar Metro-Detroit area one of the hardest economically hit areas in the country.  Arab and Muslim Detroiters, not unlike black, white and Latino communities, face high rates of unemployment and under-employment, and rely heavily on the government’s social welfare programming.

Sanders’ economic policies, tax policies, and message of job creation converged strongly with the priorities of Arab and Muslim Americans in Metro-Detroit.  Sanders simply had to deliver and spread that message, and make it accessible to segments of the community limited by language and confined by poverty. The Arab American News, headed by Osama Siblani, extended Sanders’ message into these and other segments of the community, with a vital endorsement of the candidate four days before the primary.

To bolster his economic message, and speak directly to the lived experience of Arab and Muslim Americans in the country’s most spied on community, Sanders explicitly condemned Islamophobia and “promised to end bigotry.”  Although he did not utter the word “intersectional,” Sanders’ talking points addressed how dire economic conditions coupled with rising state and societal animus made Arab and Muslim Americans in Detroit more vulnerable.  Flanked by Muslim American congressman Keith Ellison, who endorsed him and introduced him at a community rally in Dearborn, the Sanders campaign understood the importance of direct community outreach.

“He took the time to repackage his message in a way that spoke to Muslim Americans,” said Dua’a Hachem, an 18-year old freshman at the University of Michigan-Dearborn who attended the community rally.  This intersectional message, tailored specifically for Arab and Muslim Americans in Michigan, pushed young and old to the voting both in droves.

Indeed, the Arab and Muslim electorate helped a Jewish presidential hopeful win a pivotal state.  And religion had nothing to do with it.
