A 37-year-old American school teacher was fatally stabbed in a bathroom in an Abu Dhabi shopping mall Monday.

“The injured woman was immediately rushed to Sheikh Khalifa Medical City where she succumbed to the wounds she sustained in the attack,” police said in a statement.

A suspect, wearing a black robe and full-face hijab, was seen on surveillance video near the bathroom. Col. Rashid Borshid, head of the Criminal Investigation Department in Abu Dhabi, said a fight had occurred between the suspect and victim just before the stabbing.

The name of the woman has not been disclosed by the United Arab Emirates or American authorities, but her 11-year-old twins are being held by police until their father can arrives in the country.

The U.S. embassy in Abu Dhabi issued a warning to U.S. citizens on Oct. 29 about an unknown entity encouraging attacks against American teachers.

“The Abu Dhabi Police will spare no effort in order to unveil this heinous crime and bring the culprit to justice,” said Borshid.
