MH 17: Pro-Russia rebels taking credit for shooting down the Malaysian plane

According to reports in the New York Times, Ukrainian officials have released what they claim are transcripts of three separate conversations, purportedly from pro-Russian separatist fighters near the scene of the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crash. The fighters appear to be taking credit for shooting down the airliner.

In one call, a rebel commander identified as Igor Bezler appears to tell a Russian intelligence official that his troops “shot down a plane” on Thursday.

In another conversation, an unidentified militant is heard telling a Cossack commander called Nikolay Kozitsin that the bodies of women and children were scattered throughout the crash site. During the call, the militant appears to be confused why the plane bears the markings of a commercial flight.

“It has a Malaysia Airlines logo on it, they say,” said the unidentified militant. “What was it doing in Ukraine’s territory?”

To that, Kozitsin is heard responding: “That means they were carrying spies, [expletive] them, got it? They shouldn’t be [expletive] flying. There is a war going on.”

TIME has been unable to independently confirm the authenticity of the transcripts released by Kiev or the identities of those featured.

    For those who have been calling on arming the Syrian “rebels” with anti-aircraft missiles here’s the direct result of such a stupidity.
    The blame doesn’t go to the idiot manning such weapons who took a bad decision of firing, it goes to those who put such a lethal and dangerous weapon in the hands of such an idiot.

        The blame goes to those who armed bashar. But you don’t fix one wrong by creating another – arming rebels with anti-aircraft missiles leads exactly to this sort of tragedies.

        Yes, less people would die for sure if Assad looses his ability to air bomb cities, but the danger on civilian flight all over the region would increase substantially. Should we sacrifice safe air travel for millions by distributing anti-air missiles to idiots, or in case of Syria allahuakbar loonies, just to limit a dictator options for hurting his people?

            It’s not really for debate, if some Syrian rebels downed a civilian plane above Aleppo, heads will fall in the White House, pentagon and every department involved in giving such weapons to the rebels. There is accountability in the US unlike other places in the world such as Russia.

        Ironically, it has been the very same Russian hypocrites who have been arming their rebels in Ukraine with such anti-aircraft weapons that are very much against the arming of the Syrian rebels with anti-aircraft weapons. Let’s just say that I support arming the Syrian rebels with the same weapons that the Russians are arming their rebels with since these Russian supported rebels have already done what others are potentially being accused of doing if they had the same weapons. Arm FSA with them (not ISIS).

          I agree that the FSA should be armed, but the problem occurs when inter rebel fighting occurs. They could lose their weapons just like that. If the FSA is going to be armed, it cant be done partially. They need to be armed with everything from assault rifles to fight opposing Islamists to anti aircraft to fight Assad’s Air Force. If one of these weapons arent armed but the other is the risk of the weapons falling into the wrong hands significantly increases.

    A missile platform like the SA-11 Gadfly relies on its operator to know which radar contacts are safe to shoot and which are not; this means the transponder codes are crucial information. Once fired, the SA-11′s missiles hunt down the target with a 95 percent interception rate, no matter who’s on the receiving end. The more advanced SA-17 Grizzly can apparently determine when it’s latched onto a civilian transponder code, but that won’t stop the operator from taking the shot.
    Advanced surface-to-air systems like the SA-17 are transponder aware, meaning they can detect if they are targeting an airliner. Civilian airlines are constantly broadcasting a four-digit transponder, known as an IFF code, that designates aircraft as civilian. The code would be detected by the SA-17 if the weapons system attempted to lock on or “paint” MH17.
    “It’s easy to tell the difference between a civilian aircraft or not, if you’re a skilled radar operator,” Swiggart said. “There’s really no excuse to shoot down an airliner unless you were trying to.”

    now days religion can,t unit people any more,since there are too many religion and many sect in all religion..Hence people must convert to democracy to unite them selves.Democracy is not a religion,but it is a new tool to unite people in one belief.They can engage in debate and vote on any issue.It is a war in democracy.This kind of war prevent atrocities and killing.But democracy must be respected.If his side lose he can vote in another term.World need democracy teachers,not weapons,since there are too many people not understand democracy.Hence the west must produce democracy teachers, not weapons and bullets,barrel bombs ,nuclear and etc.This is only my opinion.
