Following a meeting of the committee that is charged with drafting the ministerial policy statement of the new Lebanese cabinet , Labor Minister Sejaan Azzi confirmed that the document will not include the people + army + resistance formula.

“There will be no people+army+resistance formula and no justifications for it, since the conditions have changed,” Azzi said Thursday after the meeting of the committee.

Te word resistance refers to the Iranian backed Hezbollah militant group which is actively supporting the Syrian regime in its crackdown against the the rebels in spite of the Baabda declaration which calls for distancing Lebanon from the Syrian conflict

A statement released after the meeting said another meeting would be convened on Friday. The statement added:

“The committee for composing the ministerial statement held its second meeting today in the Grand Serail palace , at approximately 6:30 p.m.”

“A number of subjects were discussed [and it was decided that] the committee will meet again at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow Friday in the Grand Serail palace.”

Lebanon’s new government met for the first time Tuesday when it formed the committee tasked with drafting the ministerial statement.

The March 14 alliance opposes the inclusion of the resistance formula in the ministerial statement.

PM Tammam Salam said the ministerial statement will be short since the cabinet will only last for 3 months , because its primary goal is to hold the election of the new president.
