Mideast Lebanon Booming TourismBeirut which is also know as the ‘Paris of the Middle East’ beats the real Paris as a tourist destination. It was ranked 20 in the list of the world’s top 25 tourist destinations according to the Lebanese Ministry of Tourism , while Paris ranked 22, National News Agency reported on Thursday .

According to “Conde Nast Traveler” magazine World 2013 Competition based on readers’ choices, “Beirut came before Paris, Melbourne, Venice and Barcelona on the list of top tourist destinations”.

“This year’s list was more comprehensive, with the participation of 1.3 million people,” the “Conde Nast” report revealed, describing Beirut as “Paris of the Middle East- having a lot to offer to tourists seeking the best restaurants and clubs.”

“In Beirut, there exists a “tapestry of sects, religions, and lifestyles that provide a feast for the mind of the intellectual.” The magazine wrote.

The capital of Lebanon has “much to offer the adventurous traveler.” Find “exotic cuisine and cocktails” at the “most exclusive clubs in the world” , one Conde Nast Traveler reader commented.

The Ministry of Tourism pointed out in its statement that this is not the first time Beirut is chosen as a top tourist destination. “Beirut was considered by the New York Times as number one tourist destination in 2009; and was elected as the capital city that never sleeps by the Financial Times,” the statement added.

The ministry added: “Beirut is still a top worldwide tourist destination because of its great civilization, its diversity and its wealth.”

The Lebanese capital is a meeting place for international events thanks to its universities, its hotels, hospitals, its trade activities, and the recreation centers it has, the statement added.

So come next summer and you will see the beauty of our city. Iranair has regular flights from Tehran to Beirut, even from Mashhad to Beirut (never understood why from Mashhad and not from Asfahan). Beirut is a star shinning in this sad darkned Middle East (as is Lebanon is general). Surrounded from 3 sided by the blue Mediterranean, and from one side by the green mountains. Its sea shore corniche is a must to visit in the day and at night, the downtown area and its surroundings another must then the mountains close by are also a must where you can see Beirut “at your feet” making love to the sea which waves come and break on its shores fondling our city back and forth to ecstasy… Beirut although has a majority of muslim population of different backgounds but it is as free as the wind because of a very stong christian presence and a very open-minded educated muslim population (i.e. there is no place in Beirut for islamic fanaticism – muslims themselves don’t buy it). Beirut looks towards the west and dreams of crossing the seven seas as the phoenicians did 3000 years ago. If you arrive at night by plane, you will come from the sea and look down from the airplane at a shinning gem. I went to Beirut last month and my flight arrived at night and the view of the city was spectacular. Me too I can’t wait to go back. All this without mentioning the exquisite food that we eat in Lebanon in general (the best Middle Eastern food in the world)….. Ah ya Beirut… See you next summer…lolll

i will definitely go next summer enshallah:) i dont live in tehrangel anymore but i know about the flights from tehrangel and mashhad to beirut and i think the mashhad-beirut flights are meant to serve the lebanese shia community who probably want to visit the emam reza shrine and in esfehan there is no such thing. i am very well aware of the lebanese diversity, but honestly i really really, really (this cant be emphasized enough) dont care about who’s shia, who’s sunni, who’s christian, who’s jew and who’s you name it meaning that im certainly not to visit lebanon because of its shia majority. im going to lebanon because of one reason and only one… i want to have fun!
but nevertheless thank you for your description which turned words into beautiful images and now i cant wait even more and oh i always thought you lived in lebanon but apparently i was wrong??? eza 9ek 5aleena rou7 ma ba3ad 🙂

What people don’t seem to fully understand is that Conde Nast has ranked these cities as best tourist destinations. There are other sites on Facebook where you can find best cities that were valued according to their standard of living; The standard of living in Beirut may not be the best, but it’s a lot better than many cities around the world. But that’s not the point! The cities that ranked 25 best were given such rankings from a touristic point of view.

Besides, If the city that you live in had gone through all the hardship of civil war, invasion, occupation and destruction, you would all be proud of it for rising up from the rubble and ashes time and again yet remaining as beautiful as ever and continuing to be prosperous despite all the above mentioned factors. Give Beirut and Lebanon a fricken break will you?

Heraclitus you are a delusional idiot…You make the same comment on each and every site that talks about Beirut. Tel Aviv is by far NOT the best tourist destination and will never be so! It is Israel’s and some of the Arab countries’ hatred and jealousy of Lebanon that caused the civil war. God protect Lebanon from all it’s enemies! .Tel Aviv will never come close.

  10. cassanova Avatar

Heraclitus stop saying that Tel Aviv is number one. This is one of the most ridiculous statements I had ever seen! Tel Aviv will never even come close to Beirut’s natural beauty and charm. Deal with it.
