Gemayel says Lebanon on the edge of a civil war

Share:

sami gemayelPhalange MP Sami Gemayel said that the adoption of the 1960 electoral law in the upcoming parliamentary elections would be ” a defeat for Christians in Lebanon, “LBC reported o Saturday

During his press conference on Saturday he slammed Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun for submission of his candidacy under the 1960 law.

He stressed that holding the upcoming parliamentary elections based on the 1960 law means the extension of the parliament’s mandate.

Gemayel also slammed the state for not being able to protect the city of Tripoli, calling on President Michel Suleiman, Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam “to assume their national responsibilities.”

He concluded by saying that the country is ” on the edge of a civil war.”

I am not a member of his party… However, give me one sentence this man said that does not make him the best ever… Let me tell you a story about him.
When the politicians had a rally commemorating the 14th March he enters the hotel where the meeting was held and finds a huge poster of the Saudi King. He objected that this was Lebanon NOT Saudi Arabia and broke rank and left the meeting ALONE when they refused to take it down.
Listen to his speeches and tell me ONCE he hinted at anything BUT LEBANON FIRST!
We have ONE Lebanese who makes sense… Forget about his religion and his party for a second and listen to his messages. I do not really care if he were atheist or not, Christian or Moslem all I care about is to listen to his messages. Unlike others who are rolling in Saudi or Iranian dough, this guy is legit.

I also think Sami is miles above others who are present at the Lebanese political scene these days however he still lacks the maturity and depth to understand the complexity of the issues. Your personal bitterness against shia and HA is restricting you from really listening to Nasrallah. What is it from what he said at the last speech about the Lebanese Army not being properly equipped and not being allowed to be properly equipped did you not agree with? Is this not a fact? Or do you selectively listen? Just by Sami saying we need a Lebanese Lebanon with a strong united army, the world will listen and things will happen? We have a screwed up system and we are at the mercy of regional and international wills. People who are governing are the most corrupt and the most religiously biased people who do not give a damn about their populations. Money talks and only money! Unless the 99% silent people rise and make change and until we as individuals make a change in our personal attitudes, nothing will improve. Let’s examine our own biases and be really honest with ourselves first and stop being so superficial especially when you claim to be educated and knowledgeable

Aside from how you see Hannibal, you only dump on Sami for his ‘immaturity’? But it’s the old heads that are screwed up in and by that ‘complexity’. Sami begins at much simpler point. A Lebanon for all. A military for Lebanon. Laws for Lebanese.
Start ‘new’ with the simple. It’s the ‘complexity’ of both religiosity and other-country politicizing that makes Lebanon unable to function.
As for Nastyrallah, considering that he held the ‘power-card’ since he trashed the whole ‘system’ (bad as it is) which was results of an election, he could have simply handed the Army the ‘weapons’ and support, and gone down to being only a political entity – and maybe have gotten 3 or 4 seats this round, instead of the 2 from last time.
Instead of saying: ‘We have to consider this, and this, and this first’, say: ‘We want that and that and that’ – then make it so. Discard the complex asides from others who don’t want anything other than ‘me, me, me’. Begin with the premise … not the results of something that never seems to work.
            Nasty knows what he wants.
And yah … I’m terribly secular about it. Go have your religion – freely. But sort out how to run the Lebanese Corporation without it. Sami or any other younger right-thinking politician doesn’t need the ‘complexity’ if he’s willing to put his head on a chopping block to help make a country. He needs support.

Why do I bother say anything? This blog is made of people who are the replica of those we see on TVs arguing and counter arguing endlessly with no purpose. The same songs, the same mentality. It is not a forum of constructive discussion, it is who can shout louder and who can can curse dirtier. Maturity has nothing to do with age and simplicity doesn’t make superficial analysis go away. I like Sami, I don’t think his message is bad, it is actually a dream to have an independent all Lebanon Lebanon, but to me he is still a descendant of inherited power and I as a Lebanese am sick and tired of seeing the same figures come back. If we really want change maybe we should start with refuting that sons and grandsons are imposed on us. Where did all the others go? Really qualified people, young and old? We are still spinning in place. I won’t argue the issue of weapons and army with you, I suspect none of us are expert at that. I do know though that the way resistance fighters fight and what they use is not similar to an organized army and I also think it should be a collaborative integrated effort meaning a merger of weapons and talent (in theory anyway). 3. Any shiekh or preist or monk or animal who disobeys the law of equility and holds a gun while there is an existing army should be dealt with lawfully.
4.how do you expect the people of any sect to respect the sovereignty of lebanon and the army and drops there weapons of hezblshayton doesnt have to and also fights in the name of iran but uses taqiya and says the name of lebanon?
            5. Ever heard of murphies law? The actions of hezballah and inaction of us humans to stop their actions causes the destruction of lebanon.

Assir doesn’t fight in the name of Lebanon, come one Reasonable, calling for jihad against SYRIA which resulted with over a thousand young Lebanese men going to fight a war which had nothing to do with them. I would call that TRYING HARD to fight in the name of Lebanon. And you say existing army. lol Are you talking about the very same army who are to chicken shit to intervene in Tripoli and stop violence. Or the army who has allowed theses Salifi terrorist to come and cross the Lebanese and Syrian border at will. Yep, we have a great Army, hey Reasonable. I suppose we can blame Hezbollah for the Army’s inaction can’t we. They are blamed for everything else, why should this be any different.

He does not represent lebanon nor did he call for jihad in order to protect lebanon you paint only a picture you want to see. I dont agree with his call to jihad and he is now in syria fighting for syria if he or followers believe in the hearts (without saying it through there mouth) they are fighting for lebanon the reality is they are now in syria. Until any lebanese or aussie or irani or afghan fighting in syria wants to return to ther nationalities for any reason even to fight in there name ๐Ÿ˜‰ they must face consequences for breaking the law of there nation first if im correct its called terrorism? Until then they have no nationality and they are syrias problem. Thats your opinion of the army anti if you dont like the army and think your beleifs can run the country better i suggest you join hezballah with their beliefs and TRY to take over lebanon and syria so you can work your way to the top and impliment your beleifs. Until that happens wake up to yourself your australian if you cant live with the reality of being branded as an australian either then try and find an island name it antifsa and start your own law or you can just join hezblshayton like i stated before.

Now you painting a picture you want to only see. I never said I don’t like the Army. All I’m saying is they should pull their thumps out of the asses and really protect the sovereignty of the Lebanese people. If they want Hezbollah to put down theirs weapon, then they should prove they have the ability to take over. Be honest Reasonable, have they the ability. ?

Well what i meant was if you dont appreciate their strategies and the law that governs them and have a better soloution that should be open discussion. Ability to take over so you mean by showing them whose the bigger man and fighting the hezb so everybody in the middle can suffer. Lack of work is hard enough as it is. You cant be wreckless and think everything comes by force or by scaring the other party which is the game hezballah plays. Ill tell you what only winnings 2 chairs in the last elections says enough. While history still exists hezblshayton will always be the party that uses force and doesnt believe in equality in lebanon.

Where did I mention in this blog anything against HA? I am not against them… I am against their hegemony over Lebanon… Others tried it and failed so why are they trying an experiment that will most likely fail and end up creating extremism and the civil strife? Nasrallah said in his recent speech (I do listen to all of them) that it is the government that he does not trust that is why he did not want HA fighters to be one with the army YET YET YET HA controls the government. Strangely they torpedo this government then they blame it and they are the ones in control. Where is the logic… At the end they are part of my Lebanese makeup and I want to coexist but I do not believe with this formula of ONE SECT having an army above my national army it is going to work… They have taken MY RIGHT to fight the common enemy and it is not right.

It is now clear to me you are NOT against HA!! Sure thing. Nobody can take anyone’s right to fight a common fight for one country. The way the country is historically segregated one sect had to be in the front line. I might not agree with HA in particular on all points and I don’t share their same faith but I know I am grateful that we still have a country to call our own thanks to brave LEBANESE men who fought and protect the border every day. I dislike dialogues that refer to sects so I will stop here. I invite all of us to examine our real values and intentions and stop thinking of first and second class citizens. The word coexist doesn’t automatically mean harmonious or equitable living. We need laws that protect all people rights and never mind feelings, we can talk all day to no end. God Bless

            Anti,
I have said numerously I am not against Hezbollah… Hell in 2006 we all cheered and the whole of the country opened their arms for the refugees pouring out of the South. The equation started changing when they attacked Beirut and then when they refused to meet the demands of the whole country to ONE defense strategy.
Let us assume JUST ASSUME for one moment that we had a legitimate election… Then the Lebanese parliament representing the Lebanese decides not to interfere in Syria like the president today is asking Nasrallah to pull out of Syria… Will HA pulls out and abide by the will of Lebanon?
You know the answer… Therefore they have NOT the interest of Lebanon at heart. IT IS REALLY SIMPLE… NO GREYS in here… WHO DO YOU FIGHT FOR?
Lebanon? Iran? Syria? You again know the answer.
Yet if they were to turn their weapons against an Israeli aggression towards Lebanon you know damn well that the Lebanese will stand behind them and in front of them to defend them.

In my opinion, foreign intervention is driving Lebanon towards a civil war. The same players that stoked the fire in Syria. It doesn’t take much to stir up a bunch of uneducated, jobless, religious extremists. The Lebanese need to rally behind and support any moderate voices left in Lebanon regardless of political or religious affiliation. However, leaders using fear to appeal to their followers is not a good move at such a fragile time.

Anti, that was a cheap shot because you do know that I am pan religionist. I do not care a bit if Sami were Alawi as long as he thinks Lebanese. Lebanon and Syria ARE NOT ONE. We are as different as we are similar. That is why I like Sami because HE IS A PATRIOT LEBANESE. Assad is done, Hezbollah is sinking into an abyss like the PLO before them “kebir raason”. They had the support before of all of Lebanon but now they are becoming more and more isolated. What we need is a central Army coming together as ONE with members of all the religions not a state within a state. That is a formula for disaster. We do not want another Iraq nor another Syria nor another Egypt. What we want is a Lebanon unique in its make up… Like Switzerland “mu7aayed”. In one sentence… LEAVE US THE HELL ALONE…

          15. Dani38 Avatar

I fired back ๐Ÿ™‚ but not at you ๐Ÿ˜›

In my opinion, foreign intervention is driving Lebanon towards a civil war. The same players that stoked the fire in Syria. It doesn’t take much to stir up a bunch of uneducated, jobless, religious extremists. The Lebanese need to rally behind and support any moderate voices left in Lebanon regardless of political or religious affiliation. However, leaders using fear to appeal to their followers is not a good move at such a fragile time.

Careful Hannibal, people might perceive you to be biased for taking a side of a political figure who has the same religious belief as yourself. ๐Ÿ™‚ Or is it only if you support Assad or Hezbollah you become biased.
