Tripoli clashes and Syrian crisis not linked, Suleiman

President Michel Suleiman told al-Liwaa newspaper on Tuesday that the clashes in Lebanon’s northern capital Tripoli have been caused by the mounting security tensions and have nothing to do with the Syrian crisis .

“The clashes in Tripoli have nothing to do with the Syrian crisis.” He stressed

Shadi al-Mawlawi’s arrest by General Security agents in Tripoli on Saturday had sparked three days of deadly violence between the rival neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen in the northern capital

Commenting on Mawlawi’s arrest Suleiman said: “He was arrested based on information obtained by the security agencies and therefore the judiciary will have the final say on his release.”

“This means that any street action that demands the release of al-Mawlawi is aimed at destabilizing the situation,” he added

“The army is performing its duties for the sake of all the Lebanese and they should therefore back its efforts to restore stability,” the president said

“Lebanon is committed to combating terrorism based on its interest to maintain its national unity and commitment to international resolution,” Suleiman said

Military Investigative Judge Nabil Wehbi on Monday issued an arrest warrant against Mawlawi for “belonging to an armed terrorist group, National News Agency reported on Monday

Wehbi also indicted two other men identified as Hamzeh Mahmoud Tarabay and Qatari national Abdel Aziz Attieh. The two were released on bail while Attieh was also banned from leaving Lebanon.

Five other members of the same group have also been uncovered.

Suleiman voiced his confidence that national unity in Lebanon “cannot be shaken”, saying that Lebanon will not once again serve as an open ground for foreign disputes.

“Stability may be targeted for political gains and there are currently many powers that are seeking to make such gains?” he asked.

Commenting on fears that civil war may erupt in Lebanon, he remarked: “The Taif Accord has introduced calm in Lebanon.”

If they start fighting the army (looks like they have) then it’s going to be a bigger mess.
And Suleiman can flap his gums all he likes … it is ALL to do with Syria. And the mentality that created it.

ya raytak khrit wa ma hkit; obviously they choose our presidents from the most idiot bags; i bet they did not find more idiot than this guy. To go to serious things, i believe the “real lebanese forces” not the actual geagea maffia one, won their fight against syria since syria is now convinced that the lebanese forces fight was right and is now involved in the same fight as the lebanese forces did namely fight radical sunnism whether it is represented by al quaeda, the muslum brotherhood, saoudi arabia or the palestinians. They all represent the same danger to world peace and to normal peaceful human beings and societies. Thus syria today is  not the same as syria yesterday and maybe it is not our task nor our capability to help the syrian regime fight this wahhabi infestation, yet we should not fall into the stupidity of fighting the syrian regime just because a maffia leader like geagea decided to do so because his wife slept with hariri, a saoudi emir, when he was in jail. Whether we like it or not, the greater middle east as drawn by the great american president George W Bush is being implemented now; for those among us who are blind  and do not see that USA plays with pawns and that iran and hizbollah are american pawns, we tell them: dont get involved with one party against the other; they are all american pawns. I believe as intelligent lebanse we should realise that more than 25 years of war did not bring to us anything except destruction; this is why i have some respect for hizbollah despite the fact i despise it: hizbollah despite its dominant military superiority is not failing into the trap of fighting the sunnas; as far as the theatre war against israel which was designed by USA to be won by hizbollah, i hope you understand it is part of the puzzle necessary to build the new greater middle east, namely the shiite crescent, starting from iran (which will be later divided into multiple parts) passing by the new shiite irak, thru the alawi syria to the hizbollah part of Lebanon. You sunnahs dont worry, damascus will be capital of the sunna crescent which will be formed later on when the final war, the mother of all wars, the war of wars will happen, namely the war between turkey and iran: sunna-shia war. long live USA lol

for those who are asking who is bs244846: i am going to give you explicit details: i am a maronite phoenician from the great Lebanon; i supported the lebanese forces till it split and started internal divisions ending up in a maffia type organisation lead by samir geagea, alias the doctor, a fake nick since he got nothing from a doctor nor from its arabic counterpart, al hakim i.e the wise. The last president i recognise is general aoun because he represents the last president according to the constitution of lebanon and not because i admire him nor i  admire his intelligence; as i said in a previous post, if he was intelligent he wouldnt have been a general; same applies to the actual president. Any president or government that came after general aoun  i personally do not recognise because they represent saoudi interference in Lebanon (taef accord) which was implemented by bribing the syrian regime at that time. Consequently even if i recognise general aoun as last constitutional president of the country (doing the president function as PM with his government) i do not particularly appreciate the person though to my eyes he is the most honest one on the lebanese scene, but maybe the most stupid too; i also approve his strategic alliance with iran via its proxy hizbollah because i believe that minorities should unite against the head of the snake saoudi arabia…..alawis jews shiites druze bahais copts are allies; why would we as lebanese christians exclude ourselves from this alliance? For those among us who believe jews and saoudis (sunnas) are allies are duped: israel is offering help to saoudi arabia to attack iran in order to bring forward the war of wars the mother of all wars namely the war between turkey and iran where turkey will intervene to defend saoudi arabia after being smashed by iran. Could this war start between syria and turkey? maybe yes maybe no; time will tell us. Long live the great phoenician Lebanon
