Iraq sides with Assad, attacks FSA positions in Syria

maliki assadFor the first time, Iraqi forces opened fire on Syria shelling the positions of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) days after Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki warned that a victory of the Syrian opposition would spread chaos in the region.

Al Arabiya correspondent near the Syrian-Iraqi border reported that Iraqi snipers took up positions on buildings near the Rebiya crossing while others forces shelled the positions of the Free Syrian Army.

The correspondent said that large reinforcements were being deployed by the Maliki government in Baghdad near the Syrian borders.

On Wednesday, Maliki warned if victory by Syrian rebels will spark sectarian wars in his own country and in Lebanon and will create a new haven for al-Qaeda that would destabilize the region.

“Neither the opposition nor the regime can finish each other off,” he said. “If the opposition is victorious, there will be a civil war in Lebanon, divisions in Jordan and a sectarian war in Iraq,” Maliki said in an interview with the Associated Press.

    It looks like a shiaa block is being formed from Iran to Irak to Syria and Lebanon. This block would be pretty strong unless Turkey gets involved in the conflict, but Turkey itself has 2 big minorities that it should watch carefully before attacking Syria, the Alawites and the Kurds. So the Turks don’t have a carte blanche in this conflict. As for the Arabs of the Gulf and Saudi Arabia, other than sending money and paying mercenaries to fight, they are too weak to be involved in any conflict. Their own regimes are so fragile that they would rather watch the security situation in their own countries. What a mess though ! I hope that the Lebanese from either side would be wise enough not to be sucked in this conflict.

        I don’t know Prophetttt if my theory is true, I am just observing the events. I never expected Irak to be actively supporting Assad, considering the problems they already have internally. I thought that they would rather take a position similar to the Lebanese government position (neutral), but it seems otherwise. So the Tehran / Baghdad / Damascus / Beirut axis is becoming a clearer reality every day, don’t you think ? Unfortuntately though Damascus and Beirut are unwillingly being forced in this axis against the will of the people.
        It seems as though it is a Shiaa/alawite uprising and solidarity against all the prior centuries of suppresion, oppression and disregard. If my observation is not true, it sure looks like that……..

          The Tehran Iraq Syria Hezbollah was the axis plan all along, now fully exposed and revealed (with Iraq recent open position). My observations are so far that Obama policy is to promote the expressions of all interests instead of squashing them as has been done before. The nature of this exposure is totally new to a region who tend to posture and get away with things and now they have to act. With the eventual collapse of Assad, Syria will follow Lebanon and Iraq internal divisions and conflicts. The outcome will be unknown for a long while.
          The nature of this axis is the main reason for breaking Syria. Assad double played. Syria as part of being involved in an axis is repeat of history but last time they joined Egypt Abdel Nasser in the 60s. After the failure of the axis military coup followed until power shifted to the alawite and thus another direction for the axis.
          The Middle East has three axis/directions; Turkey, Iran and Egypt. It has been in the blood and culture in the region for centuries.

            I am certain you have been on a plane. If you listen carefully to the host instructions in case of an oxygen drop what do they tell you? First put the mask on yourself THEN help your kids. If you pass out you CAN’T help your kids. Is that selfish?
            Now let us compare this argument to our situation. If I were to stay there with all my extended family we all sink. Well I immigrated so we can get a lifeline when the country is not capable of providing any.
            I help my sister with her business in Lebanon where she is doing very well. Helped my mom with her medical bills and procedures every time she got ill… Got my cousins established in local schools from Harvard to Northeastern and helped them settle. Many of them graduated and went back to contribute to local economies.
            Hmmmmmm What have you done? Stayed in Tehran help promote a despot regime in Syria… and screwed with everybody else’s economy when you can’t even lift yours.

        I don’t know Prophetttt if my theory is true, I am just observing the events. I never expected Irak to be actively supporting Assad, considering the problems they already have internally. I thought that they would rather take a position similar to the Lebanese government position (neutral), but it seems otherwise. So the Tehran / Baghdad / Damascus / Beirut axis is becoming a clearer reality every day, don’t you think ? Unfortuntately though Damascus and Beirut are unwillingly being forced in this axis against the will of the people.
        It seems as though it is a Shiaa/alawite uprising and solidarity against all the prior centuries of suppresion, oppression and disregard. If my observation is not true, it sure looks like that……..

          The Tehran Iraq Syria Hezbollah was the axis plan all along, now fully exposed and revealed (with Iraq recent open position). My observations are so far that Obama policy is to promote the expressions of all interests instead of squashing them as has been done before. The nature of this exposure is totally new to a region who tend to posture and get away with things and now they have to act. With the eventual collapse of Assad, Syria will follow Lebanon and Iraq internal divisions and conflicts. The outcome will be unknown for a long while.
          The nature of this axis is the main reason for breaking Syria. Assad double played. Syria as part of being involved in an axis is repeat of history but last time they joined Egypt Abdel Nasser in the 60s. After the failure of the axis military coup followed until power shifted to the alawite and thus another direction for the axis.
          The Middle East has three axis/directions; Turkey, Iran and Egypt. It has been in the blood and culture in the region for centuries.
