Social Affairs Minister Wael Abou Faour blasted during the cabinet meeting on Thursday Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour over the letter sent by Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali to the Foreign Ministry accusing the Social Affairs Ministry and Higher Relief Council of providing aid to the “armed takfiri groups” in Syria.

Abou Faour called the allegations baseless.

“The large number of refugees in Lebanon fled the criminal Syrian regime and not the terrorism of so-called takfiri groups,” he said.

“It is unacceptable for any ambassador to accuse or criticize any Lebanese ministry or administration,” he stressed.

This was the last cabinet session before the end of 2012.

Mansour comes from the Shiite Muslim Amal Movement party which, along with the militant Hezbollah group, supports the embattled Syrian president Bashar al Assad .

The current Lebanese government is dominated by Hezbollah and was reportedly ‘made in Syria’.

Mansour has been accused on several occasions of acting on orders from Syria, but since Hezbollah dominates the cabinet prime minister Najib Mikati cannot fire him.

Last August and following the discovery of the Michel Samaha’s terror plot on behalf of the Syrian regime March 14 alliance demanded that Mansour should either expel the Syrian envoy or recall Lebanon envoy to Syria but he refused.

“There is nothing that warrants the expulsion of the ambassador or the withdrawal of Lebanon’s ambassador to Syria because of the lack of convincing reasons and motives to do so,” Mansour said back in August
