Lebanon Interior Minister Marwan Charbel confirmed on Sunday that Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun’s convoy came under gunfire on Saturday.
“There was definitely gunfire in Sidon . We are waiting for the result of the investigation to know what was the source of gunfire ,” Charbel told LBC television.
Charbel also said that he contacted Aoun following the incident, adding that he was “personally following up on the case.”
Aoun’s convoy passed late Saturday through the city of Sidon in southern Lebanon in his way from Jezzine to Batroun. Aoun later told his supporters in the Batroun in north Lebanon that his convoy was attacked in Sidon and he was subjected to his fourth assassination attempt.
But Aoun reportedly refused on Sunday to allow the Lebanese Internal Security forces to inspect the car that came under fire
