Interior Minister Marwan Charbel told As-Safir newspaper in remarks published on Saturday that the cabinet will not allow gangs to take the country hostage.

“The government will be more decisive in confronting actions that harm security. We will not allow gangs and those tampering with security to take the country hostage,” Charbel said

He also said that army and security forces will continue to pursue outlaws, adding that no one was “politically covered.”

In another interview with Al-Liwaa newspaper, Charbel said that the army had “political cover from both the March 14 and March 8 coalitions.”

“The army is adamant on implementing [its security] plan in coordination with security forces,” he added.
