Al-Mustaqbal newspaper reported that MP Michel Aoun, has effectively declared a split with the Syrian regime by evading a question about whether Syrian President Bashar Assad’s remaining in power was still the answer to the problem.
“I do not want to conclude this , but in the end the rule is linked to the Syrian people, and if we are to speak of democracy, the Syrian people determine who will govern,” Aoun said.
“We have always called for regime change in Syria and freedom,” Aoun said, adding that he never supported the Syrian regime.
“There is a popular uprising in Syria and we are not against this Intifada,” Aoun said.
Ever since Aoun allied himself with the Hezbollah militant group , which is backed by Iran and Syria, he has been a strong advocate of the Syrian regime.
